Feh. What's this guy's politics?

Given that this guy has made a career of a backward-looking view of the romantic glamour of the mid 20th century I'm guessing there's a fair probability that he's a conservative trying to stir up controversy.

Looks like rightwing bullshit to me, just another of the rights attempt to make it look as if
the left believes Obama is the second coming when it's really the right that's trying to sell
that image of Obama.

Artist seek to cause the viewer the think.  Is it Art or "Senationalism"?

Huh-huh.  I see.

It is Self-promotion and the perfect examples of that is "the American news Media", "Corporations" and "Political parties".

NEA?  Try again, Turncoat!

I am sorry, a Turncoat has to be on a side first, your just a cowardly Draft-dodger!

tisk, tisk and task!

And they feign outrage at his wanting blue drapes and American flags as a backdrop when giving speeches on policy.

The only thing I can add is that it is totally irrelevant hate propaganda.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Painter Michael D'Antuono To Unveil Controversial New Work in NYC's Union Square on Obama's 100th Day in Office

Can You Handle 'The Truth'?

NEW YORK, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael D'Antuono may raise more questions than answers when he unveils his highly controversial new painting, "The Truth" on the South Plaza of NYC's Union Square on the 100th day of Barack Obama's presidency. The artist's politically-, religiously- and socially-charged statement on our nation's current political climate and deep partisan divide has been privately raising eyebrows (and voices) since its creation.

The 30" x 54" acrylic painting on canvas depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross; atop his head, a crown of thorns. Behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. But is he revealing or concealing and is he being crucified or glorified?

charged statement
D'Antuono insists that this piece is a mirror; reflecting the personal opinions and emotions of the viewer; that "The Truth" like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. D'Antuono expects that individual interpretations will vary as widely as they do in the political arena. The work will be seen by one viewer at a time behind a voting booth-inspired public installation.

Until now, Mr. D'Antuono has chosen to paint purely non-political subject matter, opting instead for iconic celebrity portraits and hard-luck romantic narratives. However, now the artist feels the need to make a statement. "Aided by the media, politics has taken a nasty turn in the last decade and I firmly believe that this is one of the underlying causes of our nation's current problems," says D'Antuono.

"The Truth" will be on exhibit on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the South Plaza of Union Square Park at 14th Street inNew York City.

Seems he's cancelled unveiling "The Truth"...

Michael D'Antuono is a New York-based American artist and illustrator. D'Antuono's art work has appeared in publications such as The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.1

D'Antuono's controversial work "The Truth", which depicts President Barack Obama in messianic imagery, was set to be unveiled in New York City's Union Square on April 29, 2009 to commemorate the end of Obama's first 100 days in office. On April 27, D'Antuono issued a press release announcing that he had canceled the unveiling of his controversial painting due to "overwhelming public outrage".

I'm surprised at those of you who've said D'Antuono must be a rightwinger or conservative.  Please.  He's an artist living in NYC.  For me, your initial reactions to this piece of art, and immediately labeling the artist righty/conservative because you *read* the painting in a negative frame, says more about your inner thoughts of how Obama has been *painted* (now literally) as some second-coming.
