Sorry, but the situation is not even remotely analogous.
For one thing, there was no history of antagonism with the US as exists with Iran. The most serious political attack the Iranian government can make on the opposition is the implication that they are US puppets. The Polish government did not have that mode of attack available to them, since they themselves were a puppet regime of the Soviet Union. What's happening in Iran is all about Iran - it's not about us. The US administration making noisy public declarations in support of the opposition can only harm that opposition at this point.
Second, the fact that the Obama administration isn't running around making public statements is no indication that they are suffering "paralysis." We know of one quiet intervention they made - getting Twitter to delay a scheduled maintenance shutdown until the wee hours of the morning in Iran. There's no reason to think that's the sole case of doing things quietly behind the scenes.
