A Long Line of Our Fathers Before Us

Dear Mr. President,

There is a rising in Iran today of young and old Iranians seeking individual liberties after decades of hegemony by conservative religious factions.

Your silence in the face of their revolution is heart breaking.

There is a long line of American Presidents before you who would have worn a green tie yesterday while being interviewed on television about the turmoil in Iran: Ike Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, GHW Bush, William Clinton, and GW Bush .

Sincerely yours,

Gregg Butler

One of the biggest arguments the current muslim scumbags use is that we are interferring with their politics.  This hatred of America is their biggest rallying tool.  Hatred for the west is a potent medicine to shore up a religious fanatical regime.  We really need to keep some distance right now.  If Iran really became a threat to Israel which, IMO opinon they are not yet, Israel will defnd themselves and we would jump in with both feet.  Until that point, we should not let the theocracy in Iran use America as the poster child for the anti-islam west and thus rally the puppet morons who sell their entire soul to some asshole with a beard who claims to talk to allah.   Talk about a tangoing through mine field.

My question is when do we say something about this situation if anything at all?
I've been watching the videos coming in on Youtube and twitter and FB. The one with Neda just tore my heart out. Watching her die that way because she wants her voice heard and her vote counted. That image will remain with me for a long time coming.

"...Watching her die that way because she wants her voice heard and her vote counted. That image will remain with me for a long time coming..."

Eerie, eerie resemblance to Kent State.

Heartbreaking. She, too, will become an icon of the new Iranian revolution.

The events of the last few days have harmed the ruling ayatollahs' claim to infallible interpretation of Allah's will.

Just wear a green time, Obama. Just a green tie.

If any of you wingnuts paid attention instead of lining up for hate media to pump you full of thoughtless shit, you would know that the Iranian government is trying to de-legitimize the protests as interference by the American Government. It is plausible, we did overthrow (or support big time the overthrow) of a democratically elected leader and install a dictator----the Shah. By keeping low key, Obama is doing what needs to be done to remove plausibility from that bit of propaganda.

Perhaps if we assemble an adoring throng of people to listen to him, BO will restate the challenge he made when he was campaigning in Germany last summer.

"This is the moment we must help answer the call for a new dawn in the Middle East. My country must stand with yours and with Europe in sending a direct message to Iran that it must abandon its nuclear ambitions. We must support the Lebanese who have marched and bled for democracy, and the Israelis and Palestinians who seek a secure and lasting peace. And despite past differences, this is the moment when the world should support the millions of Iraqis who seek to rebuild their lives, even as we pass responsibility to the Iraqi government and finally bring this war to a close."
