Suggestions for improvement??????

June 21 2009 at 12:06 PM

  (Premier Login AquarianPath)

So, since "many" people dislike how the board is ran and the types of posts being made,

are there any suggestions in improving the board?

Are we suppose to hold hands and make up?

What would you like to see happen with the board?

Or are you satisfied with staying at Susan's board?

Or would it bother you if this board were to shut down completely?

You all want to complain the board is mean and posts are nasty, so would it matter if this board were to cease to exist?

Please, be as candid and honest as you can. I want to know why so many dislike the board. Even though I rarely post anymore. Obviously I'm "part" of the problem.

I say leave it alone and let folks complain. You're sounding like the previous board owner.

One reason the board is less active than before is that when Bush was president lefties felt the need to post here every time he smiled crooked or farted.

Obama makes small gaffs every day but there's no one petty enough to blast every one of them from the rooftops every day. We could start that and watch the board light up like a Christmas tree if it would make ya'll feel better. happy.gif

I like vigorous, heated discussion of issues, policies, and even idealogies, but the need to demoninze individuals and to attempt to minimalize them detracts from any debate/disucssion of ideas.

Take a look at the majority of J2's thread titles.  How often does anyone even care to engage him.

Jay, I'm PMSing. Give me a break, dang! <trying to be humorous>

As far as apologizing, I apologized to Inka. I shouldn't have called her an asshole, I may be a little sensitive at the moment due to having my mother here for a month and a half. Where she constantly felt the need to correct and criticise my every little mistake. Or hell, just crticise everything. It was constant. She kept trying to "teach" me and "correct" me. So, sorry if you got in the line of fire from that Inka.

It got really old REALLY fast. So, I'm a bit uptight and it sure as hell isn't Inka's fault.

As far as improving the board, I mean it. I don't post here often because I thought people were content with how things were run. But after Inka and Carolyn's comments, I wanted to get it out there that I'm open for ideas.

Sorry for the detour..... I swear I'm over it!

     >Leave it alone, it's fine although, at times, frustrating.  Cie la vie, I suppose.

Are we suppose to hold hands and make up?

     >No, that's against human nature.

What would you like to see happen with the board?

     >An "ignore" function, maybe?

Or are you satisfied with staying at Susan's board?

Or would it bother you if this board were to shut down completely?

     >Of course.

You all want to complain the board is mean and posts are nasty, so would it matter if this board were to cease to exist?

Aside to jay:  IMHO, the board is quieter because the elections are over.

Well IMO Jen you shouldn't change how the board is run. You are doing a fine job of running it. It's people that choose to respond the way they do to certain people from time to time. You cannot change that no matter how hard you try to. We are who we are and it's always been this way sadly.. Some are nasty some are nice some pop in an out when they can and some are just down right rude and nothing you change will change that..
Of course this is only my thoughts!

What's to run? Leave it alone and let it find it's own level like it has in the past or like the IWON board used to do. I believe that some are "creating" problems in their heads because the candy coating is wearing thin on their politicians and they find it continually harder and harder to defend the un-defendable without looking like idiots!

Leave the board alone....it's going to swim or sink, I believe it'll remain static and move up or down depending on the events of the day....remember that 90% of the posters are liberal....and the liberals are known to feed upon themselves...especially when there politics head down the drain!

Please don't fold-up the tent like your father did...you seem to have so much more on the ball than he does....are you adopted maybe? LOL! ....Dan

For what it's worth, yes, I'm very satisfied with Susan's board, but what can you expect from a newly converted neo-con?   happy.gif

Seriously, Jen, I would say leave this board be.  People are going to gripe no matter what you do.  I don't come here very much anymore, but mainly it's because I really don't see much that I'm interested in responding to.  However, there seems to a lot of people who do find it interesting and are here frequently.  If everyone got along on this or any other board it would have "gone under" a long time ago.  It's a place to vent frustrations, call names and in general be a "dirty bird" -- think George Gobel -- or those your age should probably google him!!!  wink.gif

I, also, say leave the board alone.  I do think it makes it a bit better when there are one or two light-hearted posts, like the *happy birthdays,* jokes, whatever.  Breaks the tension a bit, relieves the boredom....and it has gotten very boring many days.  There seems to be about an equal number of libs vs cons, some of us posting very little.  Name calling is nothing unusual, but I bet if one of us was ill or needed help, the others would do whatever they could.

Re: Suggestions for improvement??????

Jen

My primary reason why I don't post here anymore is that I can't read what is posted! Almost every post runs off the page and it isn't just when someone posts a link either. I don't seem to have that problem with Susan's board. If it's a
problem with my computer I don't know how to fix it either.

And to be honest here, there is a mutual level of respect among most (meaning more than one and less than all) at Susan's place than here. If you view it as temperatures, the level of discourse at Susan's is Low, here it is Medium to Simmering, and at Myway it is freaking out of control. I do come here and lurk and try to read but it gets quite frustrating because of the problem I am having reading entire posts.

You sound like you are having a rough time with your mom being there. Listen it can be worse. My mom lived with me for eight years in MY hone and while I loved her dearly, there were times...LOL. That old saying about two women being in the same kitchen, etc.

So nothing needs to be changed here except maybe folks could take a moment and try to respond like they would like to be responded to and that is just MHO.

Don't change the Board in any way ... let those who cannot argue call names ... let those who can argue and debate, argue and debate ... and those who seagull, seagull. The Board will survive and we will survive and discussion and debate will survive and thrive in spite of those who arge and call names!

Besides, we lived with them on iWon and we live with them here ... the Board will survive!

Take care.

Actually, this board has lasted longer than most.  People need to vent, and [apparently] they feel free to do so here.  All in all, that is probably a good thing.

An interesting mental exercise that I often go through is:  "If I met this person in real life, would we be able to have a conversation?" ...  With a few exceptions, I suspect we could.

It is better than most boards I have founded or participated in... But, I'm still glad I turned it over to my daughter.

June 21 2009, 9:19 PM

I know I've become "just" a seagull but it saves a lot of wear and tear! It is so easy to skip posts by the many people whose sole purpose in life is to denounce liberals and justify it by claiming that liberals bashed Bush for 8 years. Go into the archives, way back, as I did and find me that many posts where Bush was the constant target. When he did something bone-headed he got called on it. Most of the criticisms are aimed at the programs that republicans were touting that, as time proved, were sinking us deeper into the mire. We had some really good interesting posters that could justify their posts with checkable facts and they were constantly subject to nasty remarks. cclawyer comes to mind and the way poetsy constantly belittled his intelligence and questioned his legal capabilities. And isn't that a joke! I'll keep "seagulling" and hope that someday there will be a thread of interesting opinions backed up by checkable facts, not personal opinions.

Re: Suggestions for improvement??????

June 21 2009, 9:54 PM

Well, gran, since you have mentioned me personally, let me defend myself.

Lawyer condemned credit card companies and foreclosures. Both these BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS are governed by contract. People sign those contracts and each party is obligated to do what is promised. Now lawyer is A lawyer who defends victims. But the victims were the American taxpayers who were underwriting bad loans forced on the people by the government.

Let me remind you about more lawyers. There was AIG and many other corporations whose employees had contracts for bonuses. So what did Congress do? they wanted to tax the bonuses at over 90 percent. Contract law is the basis for business in this country.

Another example is the GM fiasco brought about by the Obama admionistration in which the government and the unions became the owners. In any bankruptcy the bond holders are paid first and what is left goes to the stockholders. That assumes complete liquidity.

These are facts of business law. No lawyer should be ignorant of those laws because the integrity of the countries business and economy depend on those laws working as they have for generations.

You go to the bank, get a loan and then you repay that loan. You buy things on credit and you pay for them. That is the key to the entire economy. And that is the thing that Lawyers refuse to abide by.

Pardon me, Gran, if you don't like contract law don't enter into contracts.

And my point in every discussion with lawyer was that the law needed to be changed before anything could be done. Well, do you see Congress doing something about the Credit Card companies. Of course you do. But what did lawyer say. It was greedy businessmen. WQhat is=d Obama say? Ot was fgreedy nbusiness men.

But it was the law that lawyers should know. Lawyer refused to accept that point. And that is what lawyers do. Therefore, I said he knew nothing about the law.

And we finally learned he is a lobbyist. Well DUH.

It is my contention that no matter how smart one claims to be, we are debating individual issues. And people regardl;ess their qualifications can be wrong on the issues.

The Obama administration wants to spend us into prosperity and it cannot be done. he placed a lawyer in charge of GM and expects him to be a great economist and bring the auto manufacturer back into the competitive market/

Obama is a smooth talker and a lawyer.

I don't care how smart they appear to be. I am going to question his ability to use the facts of the argument. The wise always looks for a second opinion.

BTW gran, lawyer and many others took shots at me. But the issues is the thing we debate. Not qualifications. And most of those postings that lawyer pose=ted were biased opinions.

Obviously poetse needs a place to vent Jen against cclawyer, gran etc. We must be sure to meet poetse's need. If there wasn't a place for some to vent I shudder to think how some may find other ways to vent! (not aimed at poetse here in particular)

Lawyer is a prime example of the failure of our education system. If anyone followed the posts we exchanged, it would be obvious that he wanted to protect the victim regardless the law. He follows the Obama mode of Empathy rather than legal scholarship. Obviously such thinking is a failure of the education system.
