But others are saying the Energy Bill has a tough path in the Senate without regard to a filibuster.
I haven't followed the Franken/Coleman election but I would assume Colemen would have opposed the bill which might or might not be correct. I don't know what Franken's views on it are though.

There are 60 Democrats ion the Senate Franken makes 61. If the energy bill does not pass, twelve Democrats and all of the Republicans will need to vote against it. If only 11 vote against it, there could be a 50/50 tie and Joe Biden would have the final say.
It takes 60 votes to stop a filibuster and with 61 Democrats, they could do it rather easily.

My guess is that the Dems will vote for cloture to end a filibuster, but, a share of them (who knows how large?) will not vote for the energy bill in its current configuration. So, in the end, it will be a compromise, and then an up-and-down vote, which will probably pass.
A good number of the congressmen and women don't know what they voted for. They didn't read the bill. They just agreed to the 'goodies' Pelosi promised them.

Why would you assume all Democrat Senators will support the energy bill.
They won't, not without major rework.
I am not assuming they will all vote for Cap and Trade. I was simply giving the possibilities and what the result would be if certain numbers voted for the bill.
And I expect some Republicans will vote for the bill as well.
Voting without knowing what they were voting on, but giving Nancy her "yes' for something in return. I think I already said that.
After lawmakers had devoured the last of the Kalua Pig at last Thursday nights White House Luau, Nancy Pelosi summoned her team back to the Capitol to ensure the climate change bill wasnt the next thing roasted on the spit.
Pelosi and her top lieutenants would spend the next four hours whipping, cajoling, begging and browbeating undecided Democrats and triple-checking their whip lists to decide who was a solid yes and who was prevaricating on the cap-and-trade legislation.
Yet no matter how many calls they made or how many times they checked and rechecked their list Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) kept coming up between 12 and 20 votes short of the 216 votes needed to win.
We didnt have the votes and we had to have this vote, said a leadership aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity

The close vote in the House on Cap-and-Tax, along with shifting poll numbers for those who watch such things, *and* an economy that muddles along despite an amazing array of deniers in the media, may create an interesting dynamic. Two givens: There is not a congresscritter on the hill who does not plan to be in office long after the Obama Train has left town. two: Nobody can read the political wind like a seasoned congresscritter. So the Democrats, *especially* those without a lot of thick ice to stand on back home, are sniffing the wind with a furious intensity. They have to weigh being crushed by the Obama Machine if they act presumptuously, against the mood, tone, and intent, of both the voters in their districts back home, and the electorate across the country in general. There is a tipping point out there somewhere. If Obama triggers it, he will be the lamest-duck one-term president since Jimmeh Carter. May the painful similarites breed painful repetition...
There are 60 Democrats ion the Senate Franken makes 61.
What are you talking about? There are 57 Democrats in the Senate. Franken will make 58.
Add in Bernie Sanders (Socialist Party) and Joe Lieberman (Lieberman for Lieberman Party) and Franken gets them to 60. But that's ignoring the fact that There are a number of really unreliable Dems like Ben Nelson.
Yes, you did. You apparently don't know how politics works in Washington DC? Were you as equally outraged by the political tactics engaged in by the GWB administration to get its "mandates" passed? I think not. They were equally (if not moreso) egregious as anything the Dems have done.
Although you did not post the link to the story, it is obviously an opinion piece, and not a factual and objective analysis.
"...Really don't understand the problem with franken....we had a low-grade B actor as president, for gawd's sake...!"
Now, Mari, I feel I must take our San Clemente (summer home of Richard Nixon) beach bunny (you) to task here.
First of all, please don't mention Reagan and Franken in the same paragraph, ever! One was a national treasure and the other is an idiot.
Reagan had eight years of experience as a Governor of one of the largest states in the Union.
He was the only president ever who was a union member.
He had eight years of experience in the White House.
He had a hugely successful career in his last career before politics.
He whipped the Europeans into shape and he caused the downfall of the Soviet Empire. He is responsible for the political freedoms of millions and millions of people.
Franken has absolutely zero of any of those qualifications, and he never will.

Well, since you've never read any serious book about Reagan or by Reagan, and since you've never visited the Ronald Reagan Library, and since you have been an addlepated moonbat prevaricator for a goodly portion of your semi-adult life, I can account for your ignorance.

Gregg....I didn't mention his 8 years governing our beautiful state, that being another major mistake, IMO. So, since you brought it up....we had a low grade B movie actor as our governor for eight years. Guess what we have now? These crazy voters must be in love with lousy actors.
America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.

You assume facts not in evidence. What would lead you to believe that I haven't read any books about Reagan?

Comedians around the country must be celebrating. Now they have a real clown in the Senate to poke fun at.
Having a senile POTUS (Reagan) was a real "treat", too.
You do realize that Franken is a Harvard Cum Laude graduate with a degree in political science, and his IQ is probably a LOT higher than yours, don't you moroniker? How many books did you say that YOU have had published?
Add in Bernie Sanders (Socialist Party) and Joe Lieberman (Lieberman for Lieberman Party) and Franken gets them to 60. But that's ignoring the fact that There are a number of really unreliable Dems like Ben Nelson.
The Dems don't even need LIEberman....since Joe Biden (D) is President of the Senate.
You must be standing in the aisle in the middle of congress. LOL!
