As August approaches, and with it the annual exodus of politicians from Washington DC, President Obama declines the "free" vacation spot at Camp David and opts, instead, for an August holiday in a $20 million dollar mansion in the country's richest town.
A lot of Americans won't travel this year. They'll take "home vacations" and save money, if they even have it to spend.
But I guess the president thinks he deserves a top-of-the-line vacation this year.
"...According to the Vineyard Gazette, the resort islands journal of record since 1864, the Obamas have chosen Blue Heron Farm, in Chilmark, recorded as Americas most expensive small town in 2007... The farm features a swimming pool, golf practice facilities Mr Obama plays regularly a basketball court, access to a private beach and a rental price tag of up to $50,000 (£30,000) a week..."
And get this:
"...No deal has yet been struck on the property, but the rental agreement being negotiated has reportedly been split into three separate leases: one to be held by the Obamas and paid for out of their own pockets one by the Secret Service, and a third by the White House, which will be sending a large entourage to Marthas Vineyard to accompany the President..."
I expect to read howls of outrage from the moonbats once they read and digest this information. The moonbats were incensed... no, I would say they were outraged and bellicose... about GW spending Augusts AT HIS HOME in Crawford, Texas.
So... Janie, Liz, Mari, Jim, Jan, Ron and all you guys... Wassup with that? When will we read your protestations of an imperialist president who spends August at his home? Oh, scratch that... When will we read your protestations of an imperialist president who spends August at his $20 million dollar rented mansion in the richest town in America?
According to an August 2003 article in the Washington Post, President Bush has spent all or part of 166 days during his presidency at his Crawford, Texas, ranch or en route. Add the time spent at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David and at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003. That's 27% of his presidency spent on vacation. Although to be fair, much of this time is classified as a "working vacation."
And, more from your article--
No deal has yet been struck on the property, but the rental agreement being negotiated has reportedly been split into three separate leases: one to be held by the Obamas and paid for out of their own pockets one by the Secret Service, and a third by the White House, which will be sending a large entourage to Marthas Vineyard to accompany the President.

Mr Obama is due to take his holiday on Marthas Vineyard during the last week in August. Mrs Obama and their daughters, Sasha and Malia, could arrive earlier and stay with friends elsewhere on the island. Bo, the new dog, is also reportedly going.
Blue Heron Farm belongs to William and Mollie Van Devender, Republicans who bought the property for $20.35 million in 2005.
Mr Van Devender, a Mississippi timber mogul, gave the maximum financial donation allowed under election laws to John McCain in last years White House race, and both the Van Devenders contributed to Fred Thompson during his unsuccessful run in the Republican primary.
America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.

4 weeks x $50K = $200K / 3 = $51,600 + some 'change' coming out of Obama's pocket.
And, that's just for the digs. What about food, entertainment, transportation, boating, etc.?
Personally, I think the whole 'take the month of August off' is assinine...period, but especially when there's so much going on in our country and the world. And, yes...I griped about it during Bush's terms, too. But, now I'll be hearing how the president is on duty 24/7 from the left, excusing his absence, instead of hearing it from the right.
At least we won't have to look at that dilapidated barn and rusty tractor anymore when the press is reporting on the prez's vacation in the hot August Texas sun. (remembering blackjuju...lol)

Frankly, I questioned GW's decision to spend his Augusts in Texas.
Don't most Texans with money go to Colorado in August?

He's not taking the whole month off - he's taking ONE WEEK off.
You hate the man so much you begrudge him a fucking one week vacation and feel the need to blow it up into a fictional month?
From the linked article:

That all depends on whether one is a native or not. Bush wasn't, actually, but did an excellent job of acclimating. A/C ruined Texas to the point that even tender little northern sensibilites could thrive here in August.
Don't most Texans with money go to Colorado in August?
Nope. Many more go there to hunt in the winter. There's plenty to do in Texas in August, and I think we actually suffer a net gain with the tourists.
I'd rather see him gone for the whole month....him not on TV for a month would be just fine! As for the cost....hell his "Date" cost the tax payers more for on night in NYC considering all the added cost...not to mention the disruption! I would think he would go to Kenya or where ever his family is from and help-out his half-brother that lives in a hut...maybe take his aut Hoot-tu-ba-boo-to back since she's in the country illegally...maybe carry a FEMA Trailer for them to live in! I'm betting all that cash could really go far in a poor Kenyan village....but Obama's not into "Him" actually dealing with "that" side of the family is he?...and what's "The First Black Lady's" mama do when the Obama's are out of town besides eat and how much is she costing the tax payers...or is Obama footing the bill for her to be there day-in and day-out? Who else do they have living there...cousins and aunts and uncles...nieces and nephews....where's Rev. Wright and why have we not heard anything from him in a while?

Okay. I stand corrected, Jan. I just popped on here for a few minutes, read what Moniker posted, and didn't read the linked article, then posted my comments. I was wrong...I tell ya, wrong, and acted "stupidly" by addressing the subject when "I didn't know all the facts"! Let's have a beer sometime; my treat.
The corrected sum for one week is: $16,600 and some change which the Obama's intend to pay for their vacation digs, not including other expenditures. That sum does not count any early arrival time(s), nor does it address the rest of the necessary early arrivals to get things set up for the President's arrival for his one week stay.
The biggest purveyor of "hidden bigotry" though is inka... It is ugly, and it is true.

You are so astute! For months, now, I have been trying very hard to hide my bigotry of arrogant and cowardly men whose bodies are shaped like that of an Oompa Loompa.
How about giving some credit to a president who is taking only one week off?
------------
Okay, I'll give him credit for only taking one week off IF that's all he's taking off during the entire recess.
But, how do you know that he's only taking one week off or even what he'll be doing the rest of the time during the August recess? Rumors are flying on a Chi-town forum I belong to that he/family are planning an 'at home' vacation in Chicago, and his Chi-town staff members are looking forward to first class travel back home, too, on AF1, for their vacations.
Bush took too much time off, imo. And, the left, myself included, vocalized about it loudly. Now, we have date nights, Valentine's Day dinners, family trips abroad, on the taxpayer's dime, and it seems the left isn't complaining, only excusing. Pretty similar to what the right did about Bush.
I think the American people should VOTE on where , when, and how long the President should take vacations.
(sarcasm intended)
