Come on now, seriously. This is dangerous. I am 100% freedom of speech and everyone is open to criticism, especially with all the debt etc from the stimulus and other programs and I also said Obama should have kept his mouth shut regarding the Gates situation....but this is over the top.
Now before anyone starts jumping all over me, yes I remember when Bush was called racist because of the Katrina nightmare. Calling someone a racist, IMO, is a serious matter and should not be thrown around so casually. Becks comments are outrageous.
Call it tit-for-tat, call it life in the 21st Century. The race card has always been near the top of the deck, and very handy for those predominantly on the Left, as history will point out. Why? Because it *works*! (see: lives ruined/careers destroyed) Who's fault is that? It's *our* fault. So maybe this newfound discovery of the race card by the Right, is just another consequence of our election of the first Black president? Lots of shoes have found their way on to other feet as a result.

It's not anymore outrageous than people calling Bush a racist. If it appears to be that he is to someone, people are going to try to call them on it. It doesn't mean he is or isn't, because we don't know what is in a person's heart. Do you believe it is impossible?
~~life isn't about how to survive the storm but how to dance in the rain~~
Is anyone surprised? Barrack has been steeped in racial politics since he left Hawaii. In college, as a community organizer, as a politician.
He has decades of relationships with people like Gates. They have been his community and network of support. The people he dines with and worships with and with whom he worked. Most of them militant about race issues.
We knew all this before we elected him.
I don't think he's a racist, but I don't think anyone should be surprised by his actions. That's who he is, a "black" politician who made his nut dealing with racial issues and residual injustices that are the result of America's racist past.
I'm disappointed he did not raise above the "acted stupidly" pressure that was put on him by his circle of friends, including his wife. He has to learn to do that or he'll never rise to the level of Lincoln.

First Omam the ONe, Red Racist Presidency, appoints a woman that is racist and sexist by her own words used over and over thru the years as a part of her standard stump speech, then he (the One) proves he is a racist by his actions AS PRESIdENT (infront of the world's Media) on the Gates Problem, so much for the pampered Harvard Black RAcist professor with a chip on his shoulder....
Both are by their words and actionms Racists .... Period ....
I see Jan is now a mind reader.....how nice for you Jan.
******************
Who's "mind" are you accusing Jan of reading? Beck's? It is obvious that he said that Obama was a racist and had a hatred of the white race and white culture.
Yeah. And the poor fella was raised by a white mother. Unless Beck is a Freudian, and knows something more than he appears to know about deep psychological trauma, he's totally blowing it out his ass.
Glenn Beck is a posturing rightwing idiot. (no, that's not "mind reading" ... that is based on observation)
I agree that is was bad. Beck lost credibility with that rant. Chuck Todd spoke on this subject the other day and I agree with him that journalism has taken a bad turn; first there were the 24 hour news outlets on TV and then came the internet. There are many "news" people and organizations that have caused people to develop more and more cynicism about our free press. The responsibility of the being the 4th branch of government is sacred and we are not served well when our journalists sully it. And ... don't even start with the "FauxNews" bashing. There are problems at all "news" outlets ... print, radio, TV and internet.
Considering the people BO surrounds himself with he probably is racist to some degree.
*********************************************
And, what kind of people would that be? Jews (Rahm Emmanuel), Caucasions (Robert Gates), Hispanics (Sonia Sotomayor), Asians (the Science Advisor), African Americans (the new Surgeon General), women (Hillary Clinton, Sebelius, etc.) ...? Yeah, he's a flippin' "racist" alright. Please.
What you regurgitate doesn't make any objective sense.
So how does one listen to Jeremiah Wright for 20 years without either being or becoming a racist? Are you going to tell us that Jeremiah Wright is not a racist?

So, how does one listen to you for 20 years and not become a racist? I suspect it is entirely possible.
Jim...
The only reason you would suspect that I am a racists is that you know I am a conservative. And that all you need to know to label someone as a racist, bigot, homophobe, Bible thump[ing, gon toting anti American. And the reason you do that is due to your inability to look at evidence and draw correct conclusions. `

Jofox. I don't really care what cartoons I show that you like or dislike. I don't post them for your pleasure, and I'm SURE most don't please you.
As far as Beck goes he is an asshole. He is only in it for the $$$$. I doubt he even believes what he says. He does what the Republican sponsors pay him to do.
How asinine can one be to call the President a Racist??? His mother was a white woman...As white as the bigots who call him names.Or are you all from the old school of one drop of black blood?
I would think anyone with any sense who be elated to finally have a president who can speak proper English, and who is really trying hard. We've had 8 yrs of a buffoon, who not only ran our country into the ground but made us a laughing stock world wide. I don't get it. Are you that poor of losers?

yeah, I've run up against that mindset alot in my life. Mostly from uneducated idiots who can plow a field but can't figure out how to construct a meaningful sentence. (yeah, and they mostly hated "african americans" too... and they also thought they were "true American patriots). The extremes people will go to, to fool themselves, always amazes me.
So, you are suggesting that you are more "intellectual" than me? How so?
Well if you were really as intellectual as you claim you would know that the sentence structure requires the nominative case rather than the objective.
The syntax would9 indicate "So yo9u are suggesting that you are more intellectual than me is intellectual" Not really, Jim.
You should recognize that the structure is "So you are suggesting that you are more intellectual that I am intellectual.
In either case, Jo must be right.

Everybody who reads this board except you, emporer.

Whew, I've seen less smoke when burning wet hay. But you would do well to heed your final sentance yourself...
That's "emperor", dipshit. Now tell me about your "intellect".. yeah, right.
Well any third-grader can use a spellchecker, but that doesn't make him an intellectual. It is the content of his thought that determines his intellectuality.
BTW did you use a spellchecker to learn the corrector of "emperor"?
Did you listen to the evidence presented by Glenn Beck? Or did you simply half-listen and dismiss it as being wrong due to the source.

NAACP Statement on Talk Show Host Glenn Beck's Comments Calling President Obama a Racist
We deplore the statement of Glenn Beck on Fox and Friends that President Obama is a racist.
Mr. Becks statement was irresponsible and inflammatory at a time when as a nation we are attempting to engage in a constructive dialogue on race. Becks statements are an attempt to divide when we need to be united, an attempt to inflame with rhetoric when we need to discuss with thoughtfulness the serious question of race. It is a futile effort to distract from the serious issues of health care, the economy and the environment issues that President Obama is tackling with foresight and fortitude. How could the President be a racist? A man of both African American and white heritage; a man who inspired millions of Americans to unite across the divide of race, religion and age in his historic run for the presidency. We commend President Obama for having the courage to discuss an issue that all too many Americans consider a third rail. We applaud President Obama for extending the invitation to Henry Louis Gates and Sgt. James Crowley to have a respectful dialogue as a way to open the door for all of us to begin a conversation that ultimately can lead to healing the racial divide. Mr. Becks hate filled comments, on the other hand, would take us back to the days of enmity and division. We hope that rather than following the example of Mr. Beck, the American people will embrace the example of President Obama and be willing to sit down and discuss the tough question of race with the hope of finally healing the painful divide that has haunted our nation for far too long.
Glenn Beck believes President Obama has a deep seated hatred for white people? Interesting.
Interesting yes. Is President Obama a racist? Who knows? No one knows what is in one's heart. But I do know what I have observed.
Bush was called racist, and no one worried about "dialogue" then.
If any president in the past had said anything similar to, or done anything similar to Obama, they would have been called a racist, and probably worse...and probably not been elected to begin with....I know I would have had deep reservations about him.
~~life isn't about how to survive the storm but how to dance in the rain~~
"...He does what the Republican sponsors pay him to do..."
Huh? His sponsors are Republican? Or even mostly Republican? How do you determine the politics of a corporate sponsor? Would you call Apple a Republican corporation? Or Microsoft? ? Or Hewlett-Packard? That statement, Maw, is pretty weird.
How asinine can one be to call the President a Racist??? His mother was a white woman...As white as the bigots who call him names.Or are you all from the old school of one drop of black blood?
How does having a white mother preclude one from being a racist? There are black people who are racist, and many blacks have white parentage or ancestry. Does that preclude them from being racist? Tell me, was Malcolm X not a racist? How about Louis Ferrakhan? Not a racist?
I don't think Barrack is a racist, by the way, as I stated above. But his thinking does include a lifetime of involvement with racial issues. If someone is sensitive to injustices against blacks, I don't think that makes them a racist.

What's wrong with the word "calibrated" used in the context of fine tuning one's speech?
I have mixed feelings about if he should have remarked on the whole thing or passed on the question. Certainly the easy way out would be to pass. I think his getting involved shows an honesty and a respect for people who have suffered from racism and he certainly was elected to represent those people as well as the more narrow minded voters.

So much for trying to be nice to maw.....some people are just so mean and nasty that being nice to them is both impossible and inadvisable. I'll try to remember that in the future.

I think Obama realizes now that the easy way out would have been to be statesmanlike:
"No comment. It's a local issue still being worked out. It would not be appropriate for the President of the United States to comment on that at this time. thank you everyone, and good night."

Susan, I said interesting because Glenn Beck is a life long member of the Mormon Church. I know the history of the Mormon Church as it pertains to black people. THAT is why I stated... "interesting."
