Here's a thought:

Is there a filter in an opening in your ceiling? You know what I mean? Often, the filter will be in the uptake register in your hallway. If that gets a little clogged, it can cause your AC to shut down.

All you have to do is replace the filter (take your old one to Home Depot and they'll give you a new one). And then you have to push a restart button on the outside AC unit.

It's worth a try.

True. Acs have an internal therm that shuts down the compressor to keep it from overheating.

Thanks all. My son in law just replaced the filter a little over a week ago. I really keep on top of that.

I hope I need a new AC since I had the previous owner buy a warranty covering this house for a year. The AC went out in June and they came and did something to it, but it's out again...

My daughter lives less than 3 mi. if it gets unbearable. It is now 86.....I have all the ceiling fans on though. I tested the circuit breaker outdoors and it is fine...This house is only 8 yrs old. The AC should last longer than that one would think.

Hey, if you do go for a new AC system, I hope you can buy it and then bill the seller. If you do that, you should get a lot of discounts and tax credits.

You don't want him to benefit from it.

There are a lot of deals, incentives and tax breaks out there for replacing AC... At least, I say that judging by the amount of junk mail I get about ACHV systems.
