I'd welcome them aboard, however belatedly. Then I'd ask will they stick with their new-found concern over unchecked and expanding executive power once a Republican is back in office, or is this purely political for them?

The ACLU would be the last to stand up for subverting the rights of Americans. The ACLU stands up for the constitution even when it's not the popular thing to do, they don't try to find ways to "get around" it.

Actually, the ACLU would be the "FIRST" to stand up.  (at least to stop the "subverting the rights of Americans"...)  that double negative gets me every time.
