the section of the bill that deals with counseling and is equated to mandating a "death panel" was a Republican amendment. That's what I read, now if someone can refute that please do.

Well, I've been wrong about a thing or two in my lifetime, but I never believed I was not free to choose to have a living will or durable power of attorney or DNR orders.  This is nothing new.  Those things have been around a looonnngggg time, and there are several entities -- at least in our community -- that take the time to educate people to this choice; i.e., Senior Citizen Centes; EMS campaigns, etc.  But perhaps that's just in my little corner of heaven.

Well the reason I think it is neat is that the Pubs and wingnuts are the ones blasting it about mandating the "death panels."

This is what happens when the President and members of Congress dont read the bills. The White House and others are merely attempting to deflect attention from the intense negativity caused by their unpopular policies. I never consulted with the White House in this process and had no role whatsoever in the House Democrats bill.

I categorically oppose the House bill and find it incredulous that the White House and others would use my amendment as a scapegoat for their misguided policies. My Senate amendment simply puts health care choices back in the hands of the individual and allows them to consider if they so choose a living will or durable power of attorney. The House provision is merely another ill-advised attempt at more government mandates, more government intrusion, and more government involvement in what should be an individual choice.
