message to Jan and a ? for all.

Good afternoon and greetings from Norfolk VA. I have not had a chance to answer Jan about the pages in the healthcare bill [425-430] which I am sure by now has been changed [maybe, I have not had a chance to check]. Have had visiting grandkids all week and it is enough that I have to keep them busy, nevermind trying to post anything on here with countless interruptions. Jan, I know you said you did not find anything sinister in those pages and so be it. I didn't like the mention about Social Security and my thoughts on it are they are going to reduce it. In fact, the very thing was said on TV this week and if you are on top of the news like I think you are you heard too. I heard a drastic reduction. To all who are living on this and just getting by there is no safety net like a savings account or 401k dividends. Some can't keep their pets and have already, without a reduction, given them to the SPCA or relatives and are eating the dog food themselves. Many of these are widows of our military and it is a national disgrace. Much blood was shed for this country to stay free and I am seeing and hearing alot of sentiment to give this up form many who don't have a stake in this country. I for one will not sit by and watch it happen. I have been busy e-mailing my congressmen and Senators.

Now my question for the board is this: I listened to Obama's townhall meetings in Wisconsin this past week and heard him say in answer to a question about the cost of this program, as close as I can remember: "You are right, I don't have enough money to pay for this and that's why I am taxing anyone who makes over $250,000 a year......". Question.....will Obama tax ALL Americans making over that amount including the politicans who want everyone on it but themselves, OR will it only be the American people who are on this plan that get taxed, as the House and the Senate come under another plan, seperate from ours. Also I noted that he said "I don't have the money" which is about the most arrogrant statement I've heard in a long time, since it's not HIS money that's going to pay for it.

He will tax everyone to pay for everyt dime he spends. We will always be indebt until the government quits spending more than it takes in.

The only solution that the politicians has is to keep taxing until the nation is totally bankrupt like California.

Wrong AGAIN, putz

August 16 2009, 5:14 PM

Want to bet on that?   He has said that the middle class (and believe me, anyone making over $250,000/year is NOT "middle class" either) will NOT be taxed, and until I see differently, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

PS.....the government has been spending more than it takes in for its entire lifetime.

The only solution that the politicians has[sic] is to keep taxing until the nation is totally bankrupt like California.

That is not the "only" solution by a long shot.

Janie, that statement has already been repudidated by the dems. Obama has said so many things and then gone back and said something else that I wouldn't trust him with anything much less my health care. Without his prompter he hems and haws around and you folks beat George Bush up for doing the same thing but it's ok if this president does it. Obama is an empty suit.

May I suggest that the debt of the government is to be paid for by the taxpayers. Health care is adding to the debt. Clunker rebates is adding to the debt. Now who will pay for that?

Everyone who pays taxes.

There would be NO WAY that current beneficiaries would have their Social Security reduced! What is done is that there may be a raise of the full retirement age (which by the way President Reagan did!). There is NO politician who would cut your current benefit check. Medicare goes up every year but there is a provision in place that even if that increases and exceeded your COLA etc where you would see less if it was implemented that would NOT happen.

It is called the Variable SMI premium.

The one unfair thing about that is that those with very small Social Security checks due to another pension where they did not pay into Social Security benefit from that even though they may have a "generous" other pension. I use "generous" because it's all relative to one's own personal belief of what generous is and what isn't.

Of course, Janie. May I offer Californa as an example of a state that lives beyond its means? May I remind you that the deficits are getting larger with the Obama administration and the jpobs are moving over seas. May I remind you that the entitlement programs are going broke and we want to add more entitlements.

These are simple facts and have nothing to do with fearmongering. Fearmongering is telling lies--Global warming, for example.

The government is beinbg irresponsible in believing they can spend themselves rich. Now let's see you prove me wrong. Usae facts.

Maybe if when Schwarzenegger came in and took over as Gov of Ca. he hadn't promised us all the moon, and only delivered the cheese we wouldn't be in such debt. He promised to cut the car registrations which he did, and lost revenue for this state in doing so. but that was to impress the voters who fell hook, line and sinker for it. Including myself I may add. but now that debt has risen at least 5 times higher than when Grey Davis was Gov, now he wants to almost double the car registration.

Well They elected (I didn't vote for him) a republican and that's what we get.

Sounds to me like you did vote for him. You said you "fell" for what he said he would do. If you fell for it you must have supported him by voting for him. Then you cry and say "they" voted him in. Which is it MAW...........and it never hurts to tell the truth once in awhile.

Hey, the simple truth is that the American people [pay all of the debt, and if we continue running up debt without cutting spending or raising taxes, we are going to discover that no one will lend us money.

It is usless to give you a link on what Obama said or didn't say. You lack the judgment to recognize that we cannot spend ourselve into prosperity. In Obama's wisdom or lack thereof, we will keep giving away entitlements and clunkers until we are broke.

Now don't attempt to tell me that you are intelligent if you can't understand that money doesn't grow on trees.

I want a link to get the entire context.

And, poetse, piss off... I have worked for every dollar I have ever earned.  It doesn't grow on trees, stop with the stupid insults already.

I came from a poor dirt farm in eastern WA, and have had a great career in HR, and making salaries in the six figures since 1998.  Not through any sort of welfare, but, through hard work and being good at what I do.

I went to college, graduated with a 3.68 GPA.. Served my country in the Army from 1967 through 1970..  and have worked every day of my life since I was 11 years old back on the farm.

I don't know how you judge accomplishment or success.. you appear to have a much different standard than any I have ever run across.

[and, oh, btw... none of my grades were a result of "social promotion"...]

Janie, you are being silly on this point. Any increase in the national debt is a tax upon all Americans. A tax on any American is a tax on all of us.

You need to get that point into your brain, or be forever irrelevent to a discussion on taxes.

I want a link to get the entire context.

And, poetse, piss off... I have worked for every dollar I have ever earned. It doesn't grow on trees, stop with the stupid insults already.

And every other hard-working American just as you should be able to keep more of his/her money rather than have the government spend YOUR MONEY UNTIL YOU BR+ECOME THEIR SLAVE.

I came from a poor dirt farm in eastern WA, and have had a great career in HR, and making salaries in the six figures since 1998. Not through any sort of welfare, but, through hard work and being good at what I do.

Then you should insist that the American worker be free to make his own way rather than have the government tax them into poverty.

I went to college, graduated with a 3.68 GPA.. Served my country in the Army from 1967 through 1970.. and have worked every day of my life since I was 11 years old back on the farm.
So you worked hard in college. so why not keep more of your money and tell the government to quit spending you into poverty?

I don't know how you judge accomplishment or success.. you appear to have a much different standard than any I have ever run across.

Well, the standard is that people should be rewarded for their labor and should be able to keep most of the fruits of their labors.

[and, oh, btw... none of my grades were a result of "social promotion"...]

Jim...

That's exactly as it should be.

BTW, I did give you a definition of responsibility the other night. You didn't like it.l Sounds as though you are acting like a resp-onsible person. But you din't like my definition, did you?

But the point is that when the country is so bankrup[t that only the rich have any money, that is exactly who will be taxed. They cannot get money from people who do not have it.
