Yes Indeed!

So, you want a little sampling of life with the federal govt. managing your health care?  No, it isn't common, and no, it isn't emblematic, but it *is* systematic of a giant federal beurocracy managing the affairs of millions of people!  The VA does it's best with what it has, I'm sure, but bear in mind that it is only a *small fraction* of the size of a national public plan, were it to come to pass.  So you want what amounts to a medical IRS(only larger), dictating your health care?

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - At least 1,200 veterans across the country have been mistakenly told by the Veterans Administration that they suffer from a fatal neurological disease.

One of the leaders of a Gulf War veterans group says panicked veterans from Alabama, Florida, Kansas, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming have contacted the group about the error.

Denise Nichols, the vice president of the National Gulf War Resource Center, says the VA is blaming a coding error for the mistake.

Letters dated Aug. 12 were intended to notify veterans who have Lou Gehrig's disease of disability benefits available to them.

Calls to the VA were not immediately returned Monday.

I will second that comment.  Apparently the mistake is now being corrected, so exactly what harm has been done, Gus?

*1200+* people at a time mistakes?  Show me.  One of the *fundamental* problems with national health-care is *entirely* too many eggs in one basket.  Add to that the *fact* that the "basket" has a really sorry-ass record of being a basket for anything it touches, and you have a real winner there. pffttt...

Oh nothing much, Ron, other than a letter from the VA informing you that you have been diagnosed with a fatal disease, and here's what benefits you can expect.  Shitfire, just more junk mail, right? gheezuz...

I've gotten bad news before, Gus, that turned out to be mistaken, I don't believe it harmed me in any long lasting way.  Sure there is anxiety until you know that it is a mistake but it doesn't destroy your life.  Anyone with half a brain would verify it with their Dr if they received information like that if their Dr had never given them any indication of it before.

Shit happens, the world is not perfect and neither are insurance companies, the government or the programmers that write the computer programs that make these errors.  I worked in the IT field for 45 years and I've seen shit that would give you nightmares. Until we are run 100% by machines, this will happen.  But, I guess gus and everyone he knows are just perfect and never make mistakes. *pffffft*.

LOL! It's like trying to explain to "Moonies" that they are in a cult...they don't get it! Leftist are blind to common sense...they are ruled totally by their half-ass political views....many of which they have only what they've been told what to believe by their elitist masters! So it's no surprise that they don't see anything wrong with the government sending people a notices that they have a fatal disease...."I'm sure George Bush was behind it!"

Thjere's mistakes made every day in the medical profession. By doctors, nurses, hospitals, all of them. Why do you zero in on the VA Gus? Are they your new pet peeve?

I thank the VA for keeping my husband alive as long as they did.

And I thank the VA for the medical coverage I have right now.

I zeroed in on the VA because they are an example of what we will have if we pass Obamacare, and because they are so big, that they can make 1200+ people at once mistakes.  Imagine the same thing for all of us, only many times larger.

Being personally involved with the VA, all I can tell you is I've had nothing but good luck. I'm sorry you haven't.

Like I said in my post, I'm sure the VA does the best they can with what they have.  I have several vet friends who have been well cared for by them.  I also know others who can afford to do otherwise that avoid them like the plague.  My only point is that when you have govt run health-care, the potential is always there for problems like I posted.

I can go to any doctor or hosp. I want and the Govt. pays for it. Not a tough gig is it?

Recall the man in FL. who had the wrong leg amputated and then had to endure another surgery to remove his other leg? Recall the woman who had a double mastectomy and endured chemo for a cancer she never had? I would say those are examples of getting the correct info to the patient "too late." And another that comes to mind. The baby that died in an IN. hospital after being given an overdose of a poorly marked vial of drug? Humans are not perfect. Our Government is not perfect. OTOH our government gives free of charge health care to millions of children and adults who would otherwise go without. IMO the hospitals charge higher amounts for care of people like myself with ins. to help cover the uninsured. In that way I feel that I am already paying for health care for the poor and indigent.

Ditto!  And I have the best doctor in the city and have for 18 years.  He doesn't accept any insurance except Medicare which he feels is something he morally has to do.  I paid him 100% even when I had those fabulous corporate insurance policies.  So much for private, profit making insurance companies.

How do you feel about the IRS?  They are totally gov't run and it seems they do very well.

Really?  Ask CJ, the apparent local repository of one-at-a-time horror stories.  Here's a little clue, the IRS doesn't do open heart surgery.

It was a little more than that any time the "mistake" was something the Bush Administration did...I remember endless posts about military bills for soldiers....copays for injuries...bills for meals....lost pay for military...Walter Reed hospital woes...everyday...everyday...Where was the "harm" then?

There is a big difference between some coding error and flat out mismanagement, which is what the Walter Reed thing was all about.

Neither does ANYONE in the government.  DOCTORS do open heart surgery.
