Right, we don't need gun control

My daughter has had 3 good young men friends she went to high school with killed by others with a gun.... two in just the last 2 weeks! They were not gang members or wannabe's.

One was 20 when an ex-husband shot and killed him. Another one a week ago was working when he was shotand killed at 24. The third one was 25 and camping when he was shot and killed.

None of these young men even owned guns, much less carried them.

We do not, nor did they, live or work in the ghetto....it is a terrible horrific act of violence and these young men have lost their lives and we have all lost good and productive young men who had so much to contribute.

I am sorry for your daughters loss of her friends and the loss you feel with her, Beastie.

More laws will never correct the problem, proper enforcement will never fully correct the problem, unfortunately there is no way to ever make us safe from guns and the best we can do is to pray for the day when society has grown enough that guns are not peoples answer to problems.

the loss of good people is awful and tragic

but unfortunately , if a scumbag is willing , a butter knife is an assault weapon

it is the mind and heart that kills ,not the instrument /tool used to accomplish the task.
banning gasoline will not stop people from committing arson
and banning guns will not stop people from murder

I'm sorry for your losses Beastie.

No, laws will never prevent any crime from being committed,  but getting the laws right and making sure they are enforced is what makes us a civilized society.

There is no intelligent thought at all behind statements that compare guns to butter knives.

Guns are very dangerous by their very nature .  If the  people who defend their right to own guns could acknowledge the need for laws to protect the innocent,  we might actually get somewhere with responsible gun control.

true

no one can ever be killed by a butter knife

only guns jump off the counter ,by themselves when people are not around, and kill people

yes , at night when nobody is watching...they leave the pawn shops unsupervised and stealthily kill in the night ........and sneak back onto the shelf before reasonable liberal people wake up and go to work at their government jobs

the laws are already in place...
if they are not being enforced then it is a judicial problem

remember OBAMA is in charge of enforcement of the laws now
and liberals control congress...
it is all on them now...
just as it was on the liberal republicans for eight years under Bush

So were any of the shooters charged and convice=ted of murder? If they were, we have gon control. It they were not, we do not have gun control.

But doesn't it make sense that people have a right to bear arms until they have become irresponsible?

The ex-husband killed himself and police are looking for the shooters in the other 2.

Laws are necessary when there are so many irresponsible people who have guns and don't secure them. Then the laws need to be enforced.

and a butter knife could probably kill someone if there was enough strength behind the thrust and it hit the right spot. The risk though is significantly lower.

If someone wants to kill another, he/she will do it with poison, hammer, automobile, or whatever is available. The killing instinct is in the person--not the weapon.

Sometimes it is not a "killing instinct" just a moment of stupidity or carelessness and an innocent life is gione. Some crimes especially multiple killings in crowded places would not happen without the weapon being a gun .

I really wish those who respect gun rights would respect the need for proper laws and strong enforcement.

Whoever it was in this thread who said it is all in the hands of the dems is disregarding completely the heavy influence of the NRA or other lobbyists.

true.....i've never heard of a car or truck plowing into a crowd

or a fire being set and killing multiple people in a crowded building

its only those evil steel tubes with "bullets" in them that attack when people gather....

gillis

You are being so outrageously stupid that I should not be answering you,  but just for fun I am going to get down to your level and ask a stupid question.

If butter knives,  autos and matches can do what a gun can do,  why do you need a gun?  Those other things are cheaper and more readily available.

(to all other readers,  I admit that is a stupid question.  It is a question deserving of gillis's mindset however)

Gillis is right, the laws are already on the books....they aren't being enforced.

Adding more will do no good if they aren't enforced.

When we outlaw dogs only outlaws will have dogs! How many more have to die before dogs are outlawed!

Dog Attacks On People in the U.S. and Canada

Over 300 people have been killed by domestic dogs in the U.S. between 1979 and the late 1990s (Humane Society of the U.S., reported in Tracking and the Art of Seeing, Paul Rezendes, second edition, 1999, p. 194). This means that your family dog or your neighbor's dog is ten times more likely to kill you than a mountain lion and hundreds of time more likely than a coyote attacks.

This page lists some recent dog attacks on people to show in the same manner as for mountain lions and coyotes how common dog attacks are.
2001

26 January. Diane Whipple, 33, the lacrosse coach at St. Mary's College, was killed when her throat was punctured by a large dog as she was putting her keys in the front door of her upscale Pacific Heights San Francisco apartment at 4 p.m.

Marjorie Knoller was putting her two dogs in her apartment when Diane emerged from the elevator. Bane, a 120 pound male dog, headed down to Diane, who was 5'3" and 110 pounds, and attacked her neck while Hera, a 113 pound female, tore at her clothes. The attack continued for 5 minutes, even as Marjorie tried to pull the dogs off Diane. Bane dragged Whipple 20 feet down the hallway. The attack scene was so horrifying that the officers on the scene needed psychological counseling. Diane died at 8:55 p.m. from loss of blood from severe neck injuries, despite two hours of surgery.

Bane was killed by animal control officers and Hera was impounded. The dogs were crossbreeds between English mastiffs and Canary Island fighting dogs. The Canary Island fighting dogs were so dangerous that they were outlawed by Spain in the 1930s. Mixing such a ruthless fighter with the size of an English mastiff would be "foolhardy", according to Merry Johnson, an expert on mastiffs.

Robert Noel, Marjorie's husband, said the animals were generally gentle and showed no previous signs of aggression, with Bane even gently carrying a kitten in his month at times. However, Diane had been bitten by Bane once before, and hated that dog, along with many of her neighbors. They called Bane "Killer Dog" or "Dog of Death", and at least one neighbor worked out a schedule with Robert so that their dogs would never meet. That neighbor carried pepper spray and began wearing tennis shoes in fear of an attack by Bane.

"You never know what a dog is going to do," said Jim Avery, out for a walk in the neighborhood with his golden retriever Blackie. "I think the owners are liable for involuntary manslaughter. If I were (Whipple's) family I would sue the guy until the cows come home."

If the owners knew that the dogs had a propensity to fight or attack, they could be charged with involuntary manslaughter, according to Fred Gardner, spokesman for District Attorney Terence Hallinan.

How many must die before those damn vending machines are outlawed!

Are Vending Machines Deadlier than Sharks?
Wednesday June 29, 2005
Are vending machines deadlier than sharks?Vending machines kill, sharks don't, according to a July 4, 2003 Reuters headline. The article quotes an L.A. lifeguard who asserts that in spite of the ubiquitous fear of shark attacks in this country, 'more people are killed in the United States each year by vending machines,' which smacks of an urban legend but probably isn't.

I say "probably isn't" because statistics relating to vending machine deaths aren't as easy to come by as data on shark attack fatalities, so it's difficult to draw a direct comparison. But if we look at 1995, for example the most recent year for which I was able to find an accounting of deaths due to vending machine tipovers two people died as a result of being crushed by falling soda machines in the U.S., as compared to zero shark-related deaths in the same twelve-month period.

Moreover, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission there were 37 known vending machine fatalities between 1978 and 1995, for an average of 2.18 deaths per year. Over the past decade there were a total of six recorded shark attack fatalities in the U.S., for an average of .6 deaths per year. Ergo, barring a drastic reduction in the frequency of vending machine accidents since 1995, vending machines are indeed more deadly than sharks by a factor of almost four.

Those bears are killing people and are totally out of control! We need bear control now! Since the bears are different colors the killings have to be considered hate crimes! We need bear control now!

List of fatal bear attacks in North America
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

This is a list of known fatal bear attacks that occurred in North America by decade in reverse chronological order. In this list three species of bear are recognized: the Brown Bear (Ursus arctos), the American Black Bear (Ursus americanus) and the Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus). For purposes of this list, Brown Bear includes the Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis), the Kodiak Bear and the Mexican Brown Bear. Between 1900 and 2003 there were about 52 recorded deaths due to black bears, 50 due to brown bears and 5 due to polar bears. The most recent data is the most reliable and complete, but does not necessarily include all fatal attacks that have occurred in North America. Prior to recent decades bear attacks were not well documented, particularly those which took place in isolated regions. As a result there were more attacks and fatalities than have been recorded as shown here, particularly in Canada and Alaska.
