Maybe Urban Legend

But if not...good advice anyway

WARNING FROM POLICE

THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN

BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE--

NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)'

Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating... You walk

across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You

start the engine and shift into Reverse.

When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your

parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle

of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your

doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or

whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach

the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out

of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically

mow you down as they speed off in your car.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.

So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your

money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are

now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just

drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you

read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and

family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of

personal information and identification documents, and you

certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands...

Please keep this going

and tell all your friends

I read that a few years ago, and it still applies. It is very good info. Thanks for sharing it.

I hadn't heard of this particular technique, but it's plausible. Certainly the advice given is good just on basic principles - if anything is unusual, choose your own ground before dealing with it if it's at all possible to do so.

Guess it could be possible, but this was proven to be an urban legend several years back, according to snopes.....

Even if this is an urban legend just being out there it's bound to happen. If it hasn't already. Nothing scares me more than getting in my truck after 9 at night and thinking someone is in my 3rd row seat! I may sound paranoid but I always check my back seats before getting in my truck. I never know who is watching me close the store and I never know if they are thinking I have money on me or not. I am even more cautious during the holiday season. I never leave at 9 with a deposit. I always go at different times of the day during that time of year. If it's a big amount of money that comes in during the night hours before 9. I leave it in the safe! They know I refuse to walk out after 9 with a large amount of money during the holidays.
Honestly I refuse to go to the malls at night by myself during the holidays around here. My husband at first laughed thinking it was an excuse to get him to go with me. But car jackings are huge around here during the holidays. Not just car jacking but they will take everything you purchased if you are a women alone.
Nothing put the fear into me as bad as onenight when I working in the winter. A robbery had happened next to one of our stores up north. Bastards killed the man running the video store. They get away. 545 one night 3 men coming walking into my old store. One had a ski mask on. I think I nearly had a heartattack. The car fit the description they were looking for from the other robbery. I had the deposit in my bag and my whole check. I was these jerks ain't getting my money and these asses aren't going to scare me. I asked them if they needed help told them we were closing in 15 minutes. The other lady went and hid in the stockroom! I put all my money in my socks and down my pants LOL. That was the first time I was scared! I hesitated but pressed the panic button. The cops called on the phone. Now they are standing by the register and I'm trying to figure out a way to tell them what is going on! They got the hint when I started saying things like no we are closing in 5 minutes. NO I am sorry but I have 3 last customers and they are still here. They came walking in the store with that one! Man was I scared but it wasn't them! But no one can tell me they weren't just about to rob me! He claimed to have the ski mask on because it was cold.

Piglet, checking the backseats before you open the door is a good thing.  Keep doing it.
