The Way of the Peaceful Warrior

http://www.amazon.com/Way-Peaceful-Warrior-Changes-Lives/dp/0915811898

During his junior year at the University of California, Dan Millman first stumbled upon his mentor (nicknamed Socrates) at an all-night gas station. At the time, Millman hoped to become a world-champion gymnast. "To survive the lessons ahead, you're going to need far more energy than ever before," Socrates warned him that night. "You must cleanse your body of tension, free your mind of stagnant knowledge, and open your heart to the energy of true emotion." From there, the unpredictable Socrates proceeded to teach Millman the "way of the peaceful warrior." At first Socrates shattered every preconceived notion that Millman had about academics, athletics, and achievement. But eventually Millman stopped resisting the lessons, and began to try on a whole new ideology--one that valued being conscious over being smart, and strength in spirit over strength in body. Although the character of the cigarette-smoking Socrates seems like a fictional, modern-day Merlin, Millman asserts that he is based on an actual person. Certain male readers especially appreciate the coming-of-age theme, the haunting love story with the elusive woman Joy, and the challenging of Western beliefs about masculine power and success. --Gail Hudson

Ok, please explain what you mean then.

If you define it, I can respond to it.  If you don't, then it is just words you speak.

Jim..

[otoh:  what was wrong with that explanation of a "Peaceful Warrior"?]

why not show good faith in a discussion?

******************************

You apparently cannot comprehend what I wrote. Yet another example of why "discussion" is fruitless.

Jim...

################

so if you can't force the discussion away from your having to answer questions and commanding the details....then there is no discussion

i comprehend exactly what you wrote..
but you refuse to give and take ..in a discussion ...you don't always command others to direct the subject...
good faith is answering questions when others offer a response to you...and request that you do the same for progression of the topic.

"discussion is fruitless" with you only because you refuse back and forth (give and take ) ...not because others don't comprehend what you say.

I don't know what you think requires comment, gillis. This looks entirely consistent with the position Obama has taken on Afghanistan as president, as candidate and as senator.

PEACE IS OUR PROFESSION.  That slogan was posted at the entrance of many US Air Force bases in th 1950s.  Similar to that?

So your saying he ought to change his policies because some Norwegians gave him a prize?

As peace prize recipient, you think he should allow a safe haven for a group to continue to attack the US?  More attacks by Al quida would bring peace  or would putting out of business bring peace? It's a choice for peace.  Which would you say, gillis?

A "PEACE PRIZE"

AND NO...THAT'S NOT AT ALL WHY HE SHOULD CHANGE HIS POLICIES

he should change his policies for entirely different reasons having nothing to do with the "liberal hero prize"

Well Gillis, if you think he should change his policy with regard to Afghanistan, how about contributing your ideas in this thread I started on the topic?
