After looking at others vices - a few of my own! Fast cars and bikes, many years back. The best were a big Vincent HRD, tweaked to Black Shadow standard, and a racing 350 7R AJS - I wanted to do the Manx GP, but never had the money to get all the rest of the kit, so had to use it for commuting(!) - no lights, chainguards etc- misfired below 3000 revs, even after some exhaust mods and rejetting- but FUN!
Cars - some prewar- Rileys, one a Sprite, with 4 Amal carbs etc, quick for a
'37 1.5 litre- a SS 100, then a Lotus 6 for club racing (then I designed and helped build 3 cars for the same formula, and raced the last one), Finally a
XK 120, which I took to NZ, when I had a job there. Married and had a son there.(a lovely Country).
Back to UK, several Club Rallies in unsuitable, but successful, cars. Later,
assorted fairly quick road cars, including two Subaru Imprezas, one 300hp.
Flying, Gliding,only to solo std - Power flying (a few hours only) as I was
paying for kids education. Model aircraft, from rubber power to IC,Radio
control. Shooting, from prewar, through Army service, mainly rifle and pistol, and now air rifles again. Had to give up some vices,following a stroke 4 years ago - but I enjoyed them all! Bill.
