I remember an old SciFi story where one of the characters
said "the right to bear weapons is the right to be free" - he
had a point!
in UK you didn't have to have a licence for what was termed
a Rook Rifle until about the 1930s - a man I knew had a rather nice .297/.250 CF rifle which he lent me for a month or so - I had no trouble getting ammo in the local town, and I was never asked for a licence. This circa 1940. It was a pretty gun, but no match for my Winchester.
Similarly, my dad had his WW1 Colt New Service - an Uncle being a WW1 Flying-Boat pilot had a .32 Automatic.
- all these were openly carried when the LDV was formed
and was virtually Weaponless.
Now I even have to have a licence for my 12g shotgun!
What are we coming to? Bill.
Oh, I did have to have a Game Licence!
