The Canadian-American Challenge Cup racing series for FIA Group 7 sportscars began in 1966. In 1974 it ended. In between, some of the greatest drivers and racing cars in the sport's history participated in the series.

I watched these cars race at Riverside Interntional Raceway(RIR) from 1967 thru 1974..also,back then,Nascar had their opener in January during same period running the 2.6 mile road course...

Some Nascar and SCCA pics at RIR...

I use to race a ummm well dont laugh but a 80 ford fiesta. I loved that car because it was different than most of the other cars racing in the club. A lot of people were quite surprised with the performance of this rabbit looking ford. What was really cool about the fiesta was that it came with the 1.6L kent engine used in the open wheel fords. Now as far as stock performance goes it was lackluster but add some bigger wheels and tires and massage the engine with some european intake and cam and all of a sudden you had an increase from 96 hp stock to about 200hp. So in a 1800lb car well hehe it surprised a lot of vettes at the stop light. My boss I worked for at the time had a toyota mr2 twin turbo and he was surprised as we were leaving work one day because the innocent looking little econo box blew his screaming yellow doors off. Kind of fun since he use to laugh at me when I was doing all the work to this piece of junk hehe. I still have feelings for that silly car......and ummm well ford is gonna start selling the fiesta again in 2011..... hmmmm. As for autocrossing with it, it was very nimble after bumping up the wheel and tire size so burning up the orange coned parking lots in N. Wa. was a fun little part of my life.

...making up our autocross group(San Diego Asebring Assoc)...at the time,we were bigger than SCCA in SO Cal...

I raced stock class and mainly against Porsche 911's and other vettes...
Today there are only four clubs left...and the Corvette Club and Porsche club pulled out long ago..
In stock class, I'd buy new Goodyear Eagle GT's and have them shaved to 1/8"..I'd get 10 events out of them....that is until my wife found out what i was doing...LOL...

In 2005/2006 went back and Miatas etc were kicking butt...I entered "Improved Stock" running against newer vettes..not the same anymore,as city made them slow speeds down,so I hung it up...
