Response to .177 verses .22
Not so much caliber... it's pellets.
The ONLY caliber legal for serious bullseye work is .177, so there are a lot of top-notch .177 match pellets. But those won't really do you a whole lot of good when shooting at sporter speeds, are designed for the 550 -600fps (or less) area of play. That's not where 99.9% of Discovery shooters want to be (but the Challenger shooters do).
So with the speeds a Disco. usually gives, don't think there is an advantage to the .177 over the .22. Individual barrels certainly have personalities, but if I had to pick an accurate caliber for the Disco, would pick .22... are more pellet choices that are designed for the high speeds most Disco owners want to see.
