New Marauder

My friend ordered some Marauders for a few of guys and he brought mine up to me yesterday. The scope and rings wont be here for it till a day or so I had to take one off of one of my 850's. Well first impressions are fair to middlin. I have other guns in various states of tune so this is first box stock gun I have had for a while. First thing I noticed was that the pellet going into the breech seems a little chunky. Dont really know how else to explain it. Hmm notchy maybe would be better. So I am thinking some work needs to be done to the breech end of the barrel to smooth out the loading. The stock to action was a little loose so I tightened the screw a little to snug things up. Fit and finish seem really good from what I have noticed so far. I did try and disassemble the gun to get to the barrel to see if I could get a better feel of what the pellets were doing when they were entering the breech end but....oddly enough I didnt have the right size allen wrench to remove the bolt hehe. Gonna have to bring some tools home from work tomorrow to see what I can do. As far as accuracy goes the jury is still out. I think the pellets are getting clipped when entering the barrel but since I am unable to check things out thoroughly this will have to wait. The power from the factory is to my liking. From a 3000psi fill going down to 2000psi, the fps range was from about 860 to 890 with cphp's 14.3 gr. I got about 5 mags out of it with this fill pressure also. Pretty good I think right out of the box. It is fairly comfortable to shoot but since I have small hands I wish all of my guns had the pistol grip closer to the trigger. But this is common with most of the guns I have ever shot. I just adjust and make do. It is a quiet gun and I like that a lot. But of course an airgunner is never happy....the ping of the tank will eventually be taken care of. I have read the posts about depingers and they were very informitive. An o-ringed delrin depinger sounds like a good project. All in all I am pretty happy but like most guns right out of the box, some tuning and smoothing will be needed. And of course that is the fun part of airgunning for me its the perfect tinkerer's hobby.

agree about the ping

not that loud, but keeps it just shy of "whisper" quiet. How does the finish on yours compare to mine? The milling marks on the shroud are not all that noticeable, but I m really not happy about that stain on the right side.

Like I said fit and finish is really good on mine. I think mine just needs some minor tweaking to make a really great gun.

My .22 was perfect, but my .177 (#38)...

July 5 2009, 8:24 PM

had 5 problems on th stock.

The grip-cap had some filler between the stock and cap.
There was a very un-even streak of stain on the right side.
There is a "puddle" pn the left side near the middle of the forend that looked like some glue was there and the stain didn;t stick.
The buttstock had some vertical sanding scratches.

BUT, and I am going to jinx that gun now ... I havn't missed any starlings I've shot at with it. (9-10 starlings so far, and none more than 1 at a sitting.)

Yeah, it is very smooth...I miss that already...and the light weight. The Marauder is growing on me, though...gotta get a sampler pack and see what works best. What about that single shot tray--coming soon?

I have a few trays cut out...

I have to yet mill a slot.

I also made one tray with a slide out "port". Load it and push it in...kind of like the Crosman SSP250 pistol.
