A fellow Tennessean put the crow hunting idea in my head yesterday and I remembered that my Johnny Stewart Preymaster e-caller had a crow program. Turns out that the crows go freakin crazy when they hear it because that's exactly what happened when I turned it on at my first stand this mid-morning. They were circling over me within less than a minute! One made the fatal mistake of landing in the tree directly overhead. One 14.3 Crosman Premier thru the chest at 25 fpe and he was dead 'fore he hit the ground. The rest of them never heard the shot!!!!....but they did see my face and they vamoosed. I won't forget my headnet next time. And will likely cut out a couple of crow decoy silouettes from black poster board (I've used it before with some success).
Set up a second time a 1/4 mile away and called in several more. But they kept flaring after seeing my face and movement. I'll be better prepared next time.
