More Katana testing

Did some more shooting with the Katana today. The target box was placed at only 25 yards due to the intermittent winds and water on the range. I was interested in getting velocity and group information for a large number of pellets, not long strings for a few types. At least five shots were recorded with each pellet.

Brand Type Weight FPS Ft Lbs ES
Air Gunnery Spitzer 22.2 684 23.1 11
Beeman FTS 14.8 848 23.6 12
Beeman Kodiak 21.0 720 24.2 8
Beeman Laser 12.7 850 20.4 14
Beeman Silver Arrow 17.0 776 22.7 11
Beeman Silver Jet 14.2 854 23.0 10
Crosman Premier 14.3 854 23.2 11
Eley Wasp 13.5 872 22.8 13
Eun Jin Domed 28.2 613 23.5 6
Gamo Round Ball 15.1 810 22.0 16
Gamo TS-22 21.2 712 23.9 5
H&N Baracuda Match 21.0 707 23.3 14
H&N Field Target 16.1 808 23.4 20
H&N Match 13.6 870 22.9 10
H&N Rabbit Magnum 25.3 650 23.7 6
H&N Round Ball Copper Plt. 15.3 799 21.7 13
JSB Monster 25.3 655 24.1 6
Kovohute Standard 14.4 834 22.3 12
Norica Apache 13.0 881 22.4 3
Norica BAN 20.6 697 22.2 32
Norica Match 12.7 883 22.0 27

The best accuracy was obtained with the Kodiak, Baracuda Match, Crosman Premier, Beeman FTS, JSB Monster, and Beeman Silver Jet (yes, those Japanese-produced pellets that are no longer available.) Usable pellets were the Eun Jin, H&N Field Target, and H&N Match. Since I was seated on a box with just a front rest the best I could do was .50 inches for 5 shots; I just wasn't able to get really steady. In an earlier session I was able to get 50-yard, 5-shot groups around .55 inches with the Kodiaks so the gun can really shoot. Need to wait for drier weather.

I really like the Katana's trigger; it is smooth, predictable, and makes accurate shooting easy.

When the weather gets better I will do more testing at 50 to 100 yards and test more ammo (I have about fifty more types of pellets to try).
