P-Rod on the Quietus

I just got in a little gem of a mod for my P-Rod from
Jim G. You unscrew the shroud cap and then screw
this shroud extension on. VERY effective. Shooting at
2200 psi where I would hear a little crack before, I only
hear mechanical noise now. Nicely made and very
inexpensive at $28.

good shooting, Chris

Looks great! A few questions

May 23 2011, 11:39 PM

Is the Prod shroud the same diameter as the Mrod? What's the factory length for the shroud and what's the new overall length for the shroud? I'm having a cut down barrel put on my Marauder and I'm trying to figure out how to perhaps fit a shorter shroud - maybe this would fit the bill. Thanks!

I asked the same

To Jim G and I got "The Prod and Mrod shrouds are very different. This will not work for the Mrod."

M-rod and P-rod have different diameter shrouds.

The P-rod is .750, the M-rod is .875.

I make extensions to put between the breech and factory shroud, and baffles for you to put under the endcap.

Do you think a 1" shroud would find enough clearance on a Marauder? This is assuming a proper shroud support could be made up etc.

No, it's not....

May 24 2011, 9:20 PM

...there's about one thread's worth of space there. At this
position it's just up against the o-ring in the shroud
"light-firm" tightness. If I put it on tighter it seems to torque
the barrel/shroud system and causes point of impact change
and opens up the group a bit. I just figured Jim made
them this way to allow for proper adjustment fit up
on each particular P-Rod.

Dang this is a nice mod. A small, light piece, but does
exactly what I hoped it would. And in such an elegant
manner.

good shooting, Chris

OK, mine just seem

May 24 2011, 9:53 PM

to snug down with out any torque on the shroud. about the O-ring, James said you can use on not use , shouldnt matter.
I havent gotten to shoot much since I got it, so I'll take your word about it opening up the groups. Hopefully things will change for me and I can really get to test it out.
on a side note, just had major sewer work around the casa so its kept me from doing much right now. I appricate your opinion.

May 24 2011, 11:44 PM

You're welcome...

I hope your P-Rod turns out well. My pistol is stock and still
on stock settings, but I would think this mod would still make
a difference with your tune. If it doesn't do the trick, email
me, I know of something else you can do for the P-Rod for
more quietus.

good shooting, Chris

hey Chris

May 27 2011, 9:16 AM

Do you have the power turned up on your P-rod, or is it stock?.
I have one of those shroud extensions on the way to me.
I`m seriously considering turning up the power on my gun and wonder if the extension will work good even with the power on the high side.

Boo, I haven't done anything...

May 27 2011, 5:15 PM

...on this gun but clean the barrel and fill the
air tank. I've thought about tinkering with
the tune. But it shoots so well and it's got
plenty of punch for what I use it for. I've
delayed the idea of turning any screws on it.
Well, I did do one other thing to it. I adjusted
the trigger down to as low as I could get it.
It measures 22 ounces on my scale. Having
a light trigger really helps me make the shot
when shooting a light gun like this P-Rod.

My original plan on attenuating the sound
signature on this gun was to put a TKO Stage V
on it and I ordered one. Then I saw Jim's ad
for his creation. I ordered that too. I figured
if the small one didn't get it done, I would have
the extra length of shroud to hang the TKO on
so I wouldn't have to do anything about altering
the fill cap. I'll probably be selling the TKO
when it comes in as I doubt if I'll ever turn the
power up on this P-Rod and need more noise
attenuation.
