>>I've been doing a fair bit with planning queries and used the stuff you posted as a basis but have made some decent improvements/additions.
^^^I'm glad my child-like SQL inspired you and am not the least bit surprised that you improved it. I have noticed that my queries get better the more I do but I know there is much to improve. I look forward to your code and you should notify Network54 and the rest of the web community of them.
Now on to the "Stupid X Tricks" naming -- there's a late night TV show in the States that uses the theme "Stupid Pet Tricks" and "Stupid Human Tricks". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stupid_Pet_Tricks
I don't actually know if he still does that -- I pretty much stopped watching TV post high school (I went away to university and in ye olden days aka the 1980s students didn't have much in the way of electronics in their dorm rooms -- I sort of lost the habit and never picked it up again) so this may be something that only clicks with Americans of a certain age. It does act as a sort of shorthand for "This is sort of cool, but only kind of."
OTOH, looking at that link, I now have to find out ways to incorporate variants of:
"Remember, this is not a competition, it is only an exhibition — please, no wagering."
"Remember, this is not an exhibition, it is a competition — wagering is encouraged."
