This question is regarding an issue we are having with creating Reports in OBIEE against Essbase, so I am going to post to both forums for Essbase and OBIEE in hopes of getting a response from both sides as to the best approach.
From what we have seen (as well as our consultant) you can't create a report in OBIEE that can pull all the Level 0 members of a given member to show on the dashboard like you can with Web Analysis. It really just uses Generations which doesn't help if the Dimension is ragged. So the solution that was given by our consultant was to see about having a relational table with the Organization Dim in Level format (left to right). He would build something in the RPD that did a comparison of the member selected against this table and return all the Level 0 members of that member. My preference is to not have to do this step, but, He did a basic test of it and it seemed to work (still haven't seen the full details under the hood of how he did it!). SO, for now we will continue with this solution unless someone can tell me of a better way to do this! :-)
For exporting the outline all I can see is the MDX export option that puts to a XML format. We had someone create a process in JAVA that converted that to a Parent/ Child format for another project, but not sure you can change the XML to a Level format.
So, in a nutshell, what I need to do now is create a process that pulls the outline in a level format instead. BUT, we need to be able to script this process so it can be automated for regular runs because the dimension changes regularly.
ANY THOUGHTS OUT THERE?!?! Is there a better way to have the OBIEE dashboards pull the Level 0 members of a selected member? If not, what is the best way to get the outline exported in Level format for just 1 dimension?
Gracias mi amigos!
