Essbase is licensed in two ways:
1) A processor based licensing -- meaning the server can serve as many users as it possibly can however only have a certain number of cores present (this licensing is not compatible in legal terms with VMWare/Hyper-V virtualization per Oracle)
2) Named user licensing -- you can install Essbase everywhere you may want however each user accessing must have a license allocated.
This being said what is your question? A client without an Essbase server doesn't do anything. And Essbase server without clients is pretty limited.
