If anyone has a sample flat file for building dimensions and member hierarchies using BPMA, could you please send it to me? I went to the Oracle class a few months ago, and have tried to build using the documents, but it seems to be failing. I am hoping that seeing a working sample could help. Thanks in advance!

If you have the flat file, you can send it by clicking on the name above in Blue. Thanks again.

Planning 9.3.1 has a SampleApp .ads file

Hi Russ,

I'm assuming you have a 9.3.1 planning deployment you can work with.

Check out the directory <HYPERION>\Planning\bin\sampleapp\SampApp Source Flat File.ads

EPMA is a little quirky also. You probably want to get the 9.3.1.1 EPMA patch also which was on SubscribeNet -- not sure if it's made it to Metalink yet.

It also appears to be pretty case sensitive e.g. StoreData vs. STOREDATA for Data Storage for example.

Good Luck.

John A. Booth

I would install the EPMA 11.1 version and play with it. 9.3.1 issues are fixed in 11.1

Page 11 of Planning 11.1 New Features, "Improved support for shared member implementation is more stable and user friendly"...

One day we can expect a stable implementation of EPM Architect ;).

Seriouslly though, we are putting a case in with Oracle to see if 11.1 EPMA is compatible with 9.3.1 Shared Services -- my guess is not but need to validate.

-John

We would be very interested to hear what you find out from Oracle. Please post back and let us know what you find out.

I expect you are correct that it won't be backwards compatible with 9.3.x, but it would be a big help to us if it was.

EPMA 11.1.1 requires SS 11.1.1

Well I should have RTFM evidently ;).

Foundation Services Release Compatibility
If you upgrade any EPM System product to Release 11.1.1, you must also upgrade the following Foundation Services components to Release 11.1.1:

Shared Services

EPM Workspace

Performance Management Architect

In addition, if you use any Reporting and Analysis components, you must upgrade them to 11.1.1:

Financial Reporting

Interactive Reporting

Production Reporting

Web Analysis

Oracle support validated this though. Had an interesting scare the other day when I created a second planning application and it ate the first one -- turns our our environment folks pointed both planning data sources to the same database ;(.

Thanks for the update. In the past I have actually asked Oracle Support about running combinations of products that the manual doesn't list and been able to get them to admit (that while not technically supported) things should work. So it was probably worth checking with them even though the manual didn't list something as a valid combination.

Of course that could also just be me my excuse for not R-ingTFM myself.

7250078 - You cannot generate BI Publisher reports in Russian; to resolve, install the required fonts on the computer where java virtual machine is installed. In the //Hyperion_home/common/JRE/IBM/1.5.0/lib/fonts/ folder, include the following Unicode fonts: ALBANWTJ.ttf, ALBANWTK.ttf, ALBANWTS.ttf, ALBANWTT.ttf, and ALBANYWT.ttf.

7229787 You cannot open a Planning form in Smart View if in Planning preferences, the property for Indentation of Members on Page display is set to Indent based on hierarchy.

7227992 - In Manage Process, you can override data for Planning units owned by other Planning users.

7206573 When working with Planning applications in Enterprise Performance Management Architect, running integrations in Data Synchronization fails if Essbase is installed on a UNIX computer. To resolve, In Planning, select Administration > Manage Properties. Click Application Properties and add the value OLAP_PATH_SEPARATOR=/. (The default value is \, which is for Windows environment.) Click Save and restart the Planning server.

7206553 You cannot create Essbase outlines if Essbase is installed on a 64-bit AIX 5.3 computer. To resolve, you must change the user limits to increase size of a data segment, refer the Hyperion Essbase System 9 Installation Guide for UNIX.

7204940 - Accounts selected for fill time balance are processed as normal flow accounts.

7193137 - The ProvisionUsers utility fails to add the provisioned users/groups and removes existing users /groups if an application name is entered in not correct case in the command prompt.

7192567 In Solaris 10 computers, you cannot run calculation scripts if the calculation scripts contain Russian characters. To resolve, start Tomcat with these java parameters:

For Windows: set JAVA_OPTS=-Dcom.hyperion.planning.codepage=cp1251

For Unix: JAVA_OPTS="-Dcom.hyperion.planning.codepage=cp1251"; export JAVA_OPTS

7191008 - When accessing an Enterprise Performance Management Architect (EPMA) application through Planning Web, where Planning is deployed on Oracle Application Server, dimension properties for Scenario and Version are not displayed.

7189712 Temporary Excel files are not deleted after logging out of a Planning application. This issue has been resolved for supported Windows-based Planning installations and setups other than Planning set up on Windows 2000, Microsoft Office 2000, and Firefox Web browser. As workaround for users working on Planning set up on Windows 2000, Microsoft Office 2000, and Firefox Web browser, delete the files after you complete your tasks.

7185731 - In Planning Web, in File > Preferences > Display Options, selecting preference Use Application default may result in duplicate tabs.

7117173 - You cannot incrementally deploy Oracles Enterprise Performance Management Architect (EPMA) applications to Planning.

7117179 - Deploying applications from EPMA to Planning fails if the deployed application contains modified attribute dimensions.

7117095 - You cannot upgrade EPMA applications to Planning, if the EPMA applications contain custom time periods.

7116707 - Users are removed if you synchronize an externally-authenticated Planning application with Hyperion Shared Services (HSS) while the external provider is not running.

7114411 When saving the properties of Hyperion Business Rules, passwords passed between Essbase Administration Services Console and Essbase Administration Services Server are not encrypted.

7114404 For a Smart List with large number of entries, for example over 400 entries, performing tasks on Smart List like view, edit, add, and save takes more time to complete, and often the Web page becomes unresponsive.

Note: This resolution has shortened the time taken to complete tasks on Smart List; however, while working on a Smart List task, if in the Web browser, a script-warning message is displayed, select No to continue.

7113810 - From Workspace, when you try to log on to an Oracle application that is set to application maintenance mode, an inappropriate error message is displayed - An error occurred while processing this page. Check the log for details. Please close the current tab and open application again. The message must appropriately convey that the application is in maintenance mode.

7112873 For Planning installed on HP-UX 11.23, Solaris 10, and AIX 5.3 computers, you cannot create a Planning application from an application that contains dimension or member names created in Russian.

7110951 The deployment of EPMA Planning applications is very slow if it contains large number of flat hierarchy members in any dimension, for example, numerous members in the Employee dimension.

7110934 - Deploying a Planning application multiple times without restarting the application server may result in an Out of Memory error message being displayed.

7005740 - Grid spreading is not proportional for entities if entities contain negative values.

6968007 - You cannot maximize a composite form.

6753394 - When you launch a business rule from a Planning form and the business rule contains a substitution variable value that is populated at run time and assigned to a Planning dimension, the name of the substitution variable is populated in the Run Time Prompt (RTP) window instead of the value of the substitution variable.

6576166 - Use member on form shows the last used value instead of the value pertaining to the member on the form.

6539679 For a business rule, when there are multiple RTPs from a dimension, launching these rules only fills one RTP member and not all assigned RTPs.

This Service Fix is cumulative and includes all earlier service fixes for Planning 9.3.1.1.x releases.

Defects Fixed in Release 9.3.1.1.5

7002332 Sometimes refreshing the deployment outline can cause problems when members are updating.

7002312 Planning performance may degrade during peak usage times when opening applications that have many data forms with business rules assigned to them.

6974745 The Remove Non-provisioned Users/Groups option was removed from the Add Access dialog box.

7016322 If you have more than one repository on the same server, you may not be able to connect to a repository when you try to migrate it; only the first connection is maintained.

7021469 Business Rules should support dataexport and dataimportbin functionality.

Defects Fixed in Release 9.3.1.1.4

6956557 (8-525035129) Mass allocation grids cannot spread data relationally within the same time dimension. For example, you cannot spread Q3 data to Q2.

6956383 Incorrect binding with the RMI registry causes occasional application runtime problems.

6893520 Performance degrades when the user preference Indent Based on Hierarchy is selected.

6893508 Planning performance can degrade during peak usage times when opening a Planning application through Workspace.

6956578 Users cannot view a menu linked to a data form if the menu is also linked to a composite data form.

Defects Fixed in Release 9.3.1.1.3

6815758 When a Planning application is deployed, attribute dimensions are counted toward the 20 maximum dimension limits.

6813473 When using the Command Line Launcher to run a business rule with the validate option, an error message should display when validation fails.

6803565 Business Rules objects cannot be opened when the link between a sequence and rule is modified.

6775001 If a user selects a business rule from the Business Rules area of a data form view pane, and the business rule has the Hide Prompt property set, the Planning session times out.

6759949 When returning to a Planning application from the User Management Console, the session between Planning and the User Management Console times out.

6756151 An error occurs when using the ExportSecurity Utility with a Planning application containing a composite data form.

6646606 An error occurs when saving a composite data form that has the Suppress Missing Data property set.

6843473 An error occurs when a business rule with a runtime prompt value is passed as a substitution or user variable.

6822765 The e-mail option does not work in Business Rules Web Launcher.

6822738 Smart View does not supply the correct runtime prompt to Essbase when the Use Members on Forms option is set.

6867928 Smart View attempts authentication requests twice when connecting to an LDAP server.

Defects Fixed in Release 9.3.1.1.2

6726732 Identity migration should be supported in Business Rules.

6727550 When using the Command Line Launcher to run a business rule with the validate option, the business rule executes when it should only validate.

Defects Fixed in Release 9.3.1.1.1

6610669 (8-665793145) During configuration, passwords saved to configuration files are not encrypted.

6610641 In Hyperion System 9 Capital Expense Planning, depreciation calculations are not calculated correctly for fiscal calendars when the first fiscal month is a month other than January.

6610615 Sometimes launching a business rule in offline Planning returns an error message about Java heap space instead of a result.

To increase the heap size and avoid this situation:

Add the property JavaMaxHeapSize to the registry at: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HyperionSolutions\HyperionPlanning\Offline

The default value of the property is 256 MB. Increase the value to provide enough heap space to accommodate anticipated calculation needs.

6610651 (8-663830051) Sometimes the security filter cannot be refreshed for servers in the U.S. region that do not use English.

6610629 (8-658938381) Users cannot generate the Access Control Report while logged in from the Hyperion Shared Services User Management Console.

6636266 (8-644790514) You cannot run business rule sequences in a clustered or load-balanced environment.

6636292 (8-644790471) If a user is in both an external authentication group and a native group, and a business rule has access set for the external group only, the user cannot view that business rule. Also, the user is listed twice in the Rules access list in Analytic Administration Services.

6637393 (8-645464423) When connecting to Planning using Hyperion Application Link or Data Integration Manager, success is intermittent (changes were made to handle the exception causing the problem).

6637379 (8-651003902) Planning users are unable to take data forms offline when the data forms are stored on a UNIX system.

6636367 (8-665086601) When the Business Rules connection to the relational database is lost, Business Rules does not reconnect to it. To solve this problem, an optional property, HBR_CONNECTION_VALIDATE_TIME, was added to HBRServer.properties. This property specifies a time interval for checking the connection between Business Rules and the relational database. If the connection is not valid, a new connection is established. The time interval is specified in milliseconds and defaults to 300,000 (five minutes).

6636967 (8-523268259) A communication error occurs when you open a Planning application from Workspace.

6632293 (8-644790553) Performance is slow for Planning Web client users accessing Planning over a slow-bandwidth connection (the browser-caching mechanism is improved).

6637292 (8-665971991) Sometimes business rules that include runtime prompts fail in Smart View.

9.3.1.1.2 patches?

No score for this post

Thank Ben,

I'm not seeing the 9.3.1.1.2 EPMA patches.

I'm using the simple search and have tried to put 9.3.1.1 and 9.3.1.0 in the Release area.

Did you log a case and they made it specifically available for your login id (I'm not a big fan of them holding out fixes).

Thanks,

-John

Hi John,

Try Simple search,
Product or Family > Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management Architect (hypepma)
Release > EPMA 9.3.1.1
Patch Type > Any

It should then display 3 patches.

Cheers

John
