Nephew came by today with some paintball gear. One of the things he had was a RP4 88gr. to paintball adaptor....which has a functioning pin valve. Filled his 88gr. (along with a warning not to let it get hot) along with his 20oz and eventually sent him on his way, but borrowed that RAP4 adpater for the morning.
Which got me to thinking. Got out my old fore end, put the hanger back on the barrel, and started making a hole in the fore end.
So the set up is:
B&A long AS to paintball adaptor.
RAP4 AS to paintball adaptor (with pin valve).

By the time I was done playing, he had to take his toys and go....but I know the set up works. Ordered two of the adapters ($15 each) and will set up two tanks.
Have tried the short (MAC1) adaptor and paintball tanks (which is where the "smile" cut outs on the stock come from), the B&A adaptor and several sized tanks, but the balance was never quite right (although 3.5oz. paintball tanks came close) and holding a tank isn't quite as nice as holding a fore end.
It suits me...my shooting sessions seldom last for more than 100-150shots, can refill the 88gr. with standard paintball gear, the balance isn't bad, and if you need to can just plug in a regualr AS tank.

..but while the conversion to refillable 88's worked, the rifle shoots less well. This particular rifle just doesn't like to have the fore end touching the barrel. Same conveersion as pictured, with the fore end off, shoots just fine....put the fore arm back on and it tosses every 4th or 5th shot out of the group.
Back to 3.5oz. tanks for me. The paintball tank converted 88gr.'s will get used on a couple of QB's.

Wow, that’s weird Robert.... I mean after all they are the same cartridges. Well I've made about 10 now and used them all and have never had that problem. Are you sure that you used straight ones? the bent / off center AS cans will mess with you for sure, even before the conversion. I wonder how this even happens?
I am trying to find one of these RP4 88gr. to paintball adaptors but I can't!
Can you tell where did you get it from? Also have in mind that I live in Europe, so an online shop would be much more helpful!!
Thank you very much....
Also you said that after you had this mod on, your gun wasn't shooting properly.
I believe the reason for that is the bottle's cover. If it is pushing the barrel then this is it! Try make the hole for the bottle a bit wider, to make sure the barrel can move freely while you shout!

Haven't been using them for the RWS850, found that i prefer to just hang a 3.5oz. or 9oz. paintball tank. the paintball tank is ugly, but have come to care more about groups than about visual appeal. http://rap4.com/paintball/os/disposable-adapter-p-1537.html
The one on the left is an 88gr. to paintball adaptor (without a pin valve) and that connected to an on/off...it's used on a QB78. Won't work on an RWS850 as the on/off (1) sticks out too far and (2) would be inside the stock even if it didn't stick out too far,
The one on the right is an 88gr. hooked to the RAP 4 adaptor...basically treat it like a little paintball tank. Both of mine came with the black plastic (detachable) collar.

Got better accuracy when I tossed the fore arm hanger. With the fore end a slide fit on the tank and clipped into the stock, there is no movement. the slight pressure of resting the gun on bags (vs. holding it in your hand) doesn't cause so much of a point of impact difference. This way seems to put the small variations in fore end pressure onto the tank rather than onto the barrel.

..but when an out-the-box rifles shoots in the 2's at 25yards and under 7/8ths at 50yards, tend to leave it alone until something breaks and makes me go inside.
The other "good" thing about pitching the hanger, can go back to 9oz. tanks by just slipping off the fore end and unscrewing the adapted 88gr. tank.

Going over to the 9 oz. paint ball tank and after listening to Henry aka bbigun I am just about to find out how much there is involved in doing it. I have shot up three airsource tanks and I like the econimics of the 9 0z tank, but I am not a AG smith and I have good thing going and don,t want to screw it up, that is why I went to a pro to get my tune to start with.

Joe, It's real easy to do. You can do it with no problems at all. I'll talk you through it if you like, but it's pretty much just tapping out the little hook that holds on the fore stock and then just screw it in. Get the B&A 850 to 9oz adapter from Ron its easier to deal with than Tims. If you need any help just give me a shout. Roald.
It's not just the length, Tims one has no way to tighten it down, it has no hex end to get a wrench to. Plus it does not have the pin through the center. Instead it's a fixed pin. If the adapter decides to come off the gun with the paintball tank, you end up dumping all your CO2. This can't happen with the B&A adapter. Roald.
