Work In Progress...

Hi all!

Thought you might all like a bit of an update on my latest 850 project...

I finally managed to get a choked 24 inch Walther barrel blank machined, blued and fitted into my new .177 caliber 850.

I'm still waiting on my fully-adjustable Steve Corcoran stock to arrive, but the rifle is looking pretty good and shoots extremely accurately and consistently. All in all... I'm well chuffed!

How about half-inch groups at 50 yards?

Hole-for-hole at 40 yards!

That's with the output regulated down to a UK-legal 11.5 ftlbs.

Great job Simon. I'm looking into using LW or HW's on my guns
in the near future. It'll all depend on which is easier to get my hands on.
This whole 22 barrel thing has got me a bit miffed. I have lost
over 10 sales already because of it.

I got my barrel from Chambers Gunmakers in Scotlandhttp://www.gunspares.co.uk

Cost me just over £100 delivered to my door.

Then, I took it to George the Gunsmith at May of London to be machined and fitted to the 850 action.

I'd guess you would have more gunmakers over the pond than here, though!

Thanks very much.

I'll post more pics when I get the Steve Corcoran stock... It will look the business then!

In my opinion, the CenterPoint scope is excellent value for money... I picked that one up in WalMart for $55 whilst on holiday in Florida last year.

It's really easy to use and the clarity and light-gathering are excellent.

The two things that let it down are parallax error (I shoot HFT competitions and have to keep the objective set to a parallax of around 22 yards - so I have to be very careful about moving my eye) and the easy-to-use lock-rings on the turrets often loosen inadvertently - sometimes resulting in a loss of zero. Although, this is more of a problem with spring guns.

CenterPoint has a rather broad depth of field compared to the higher power scopes...that is,I think it affects parallex settings...my Barska 6-24 seems to "snap" in better at various ranges...

There is some history on this as FT started in Britain...then expanded into the US...seems to answer why the higher power scopes became so popular in the US later in FT...(we are limited to 12x in HFT...)

Thanks, Roald.

Were you referring to me, or my girlfriend, Debra??? wink.gif

The guy with the Steyr is actually one of the top HFT shots in the country, but we were only messing around trying to knock down a target at 80 yards!

As I only just finished putting the new .177 850 together, we haven't had the chance to go head-to-head in the Open Class yet... and, I'm shooting my .22 850 Carbine in the UK Nationals (currently running Third). I may fit the stock to my .22 and give that a try for the remaining rounds.

I did shoot the new .177 850 in the UK Matchplay just over a week ago... 64 shooters from all over the country in a knockout competition. It shot very well, but I still got dropped in the third round! I guess I'm still getting used to the rifle.

The only other .177 I have shot is my Air Arms TX200 springer... I shoot that in the UK Spring Gun Championship... In fact, I just got back from Quarry in Wales, where I came in Third after a shoot-off. I got a nice, shiny plate. happy.gif

I also just bought Debra a second-hand Daystate X2 with an ambi stock... We are still not too sure whether she is best shooting right or left-handed! She is fantastic at standing shots, though. I think I may need to look out!
