Some have different thickness shims in them. .002 .005 .010
It will depend on how close that particular reg got to 1800psi
with the standard spring stack washer arrangement to which thickness
and amount of shims would be used.
If it's close, adding one 5 thou shim should get you around 15fps gain in velocity.
in .22. I've never had to mess with the 177's they are usually well over
my stated /garanteed velocity anyway.
If you gained more back putting them back than you did removing them,
then there must be something between them making them "thicker"
If it's grease, shoot it a bit and it'll work it's way out and the reg will
settle down.
I found that about 8 to 10 mags will get it to single digit shot to shot
deviation, but it may still pick up 1 or 2 fpe as time goes on.
Lots of things lead to this, not all of them have anything to do with
the regualtor. I would say thats it's very difficult to tune any gun to an
exact fpe output and expect it to stay there for more than a few hundred
shots.
As the barrel leads up, it'll pick up speed, lead being more slippery than steel.
Of course when it it gets really bad it could slow down a bit due the bore
getting tighter..... or speed up due to a better seal in the tighter bore.
There are a ton of varables that Daystate heve tried to combat with their
electronic system control and even that gets taxed some times.
Having said all this it should not be too hard to get yours to 19fpe though.
I'd set it up at just over 18fpe and just shoot it a while. It should settle down
right where you need it to be. around 19fpe.
