Lucky fella you are man.... answer to question.... different sound, more muffled, but not really quieter. I think it just needs 2 more inches so there is more perforated tube.
I'm starting a fresh one in aluminum Wednesday (got to mow the lawn tomorrow)
If it works out well (it will) it's yours.
