Range Report #2

Saturday morning I went to the range at 9:45 and shot consistent dime groups at 30 yards, bench rest and by myself. I was using the CPHPs. About 11:00 or so the regular crowd started to drift in and inquired about my new 850. What kind is it,,,,, Hows it shoot,,,,,Thats made in Germany??,,,,Why would they make a CO2 gun into an air gun???? Those kinds of questions.

I offered it up to the experts to shoot. I could feel the skepticism in the air. How accurate could it be???? Joe started shoot for a water bottle cap at 50 yards,,,, took him about 7 shots to sight it in and destroy it. He walk away amazed. He is one of the elite shooters in the club. He shot it later and was really impressed with the accuracy. Several other of the top shooters tried the rifle and were duly impressed at 30 yards. Carl put the first two shot in the same hole and wound up with 4 at a ¼. He was really surprised with the first two shots.

Joe later got out his Chrony and was blown away at the 1068 that the CPHSs put through it. We tried some WalMar pointed pellets and they were even higher (1079). He gave me some JBL heavies and they shot around 965. Every one was like,,,,, well this is just too fast to be accurate.

My position remained,,,,,,,,, look at the results.. although unsaid.

I couldnt make it over to the FT today due to other obligations, but I realize that Im not in the same league that they are shooting. Itll take a LOT of practice the get there,,,,, if ever. They are good.

Great report George. Thanks for sharing that with us.
There does seem to be the "speed issue" folks who have believed it for so long
that they cant believe it even when shooting a gun thats doing what they think is
not possible.
You have to shoot some Beeman Kodiak's through it, they will give you one
hole at 40yards.
Roald.

It was really a laugh when Joe shot the first shot... he aimed at a staple left in the target backer board at 25 yards and hit it. He yelled out "I hit the freekin staple I aimed at". I'm sure he thought it was a freak and he continued to shoot some more at that target before he tried for the bottle cap at 50 yards. He was convinced after his "range time" with the rifle.

I was invited (read that harassed) to shoot the 10 yard competition they have on Thursday nights for 6 weeks, starting on the 15th. Yep, I'll be there, knowing fully that they are MUCH better offhand shooters than I am,,,,,. I'll learn.

I do find that it is a little front heavy. We weighed it and it came in at 9lbs 8 oz with the tank at 2400lbs. Yep, they have a baby scale in the air rifle range (surprise me) club house. I may add some "duct seal" in the butt to give it a better balance. They gave it the "once over" at the range and I know they were dully impressed.

I've ordered the Steve Corcoran adjustable stock (via your site). That will help somewhat with the balance and make the rifle much more tunable to my positioning of the rifle. I'll wait patiently and have a beautiful 850 that shoots like no other "CO2 gun".

Our range (Delaware County Field and Stream) will host the Pennsylvania state FT championships on 11/1/2009 and I plan on attending, just to watch.

Thanks for a GREAT rifle Roald.........

George

Thanks for a good update George. I'm glad that you are happy with the 850.
I'm just no good at off hand shooting as well. Even when hunting I'll find a rest.
However I know that with practice you will get good at it. I used to be pretty good
a long while ago .... when I did it a lot. wink.gif
