Each month we shoot a 50 yard benchrest match in Temecula using NRA A36 targets (1 3/8" bulls). We shoot 3 targets (3 shots each bull) and scoring is based on size of each group.Total of 90 shots for 3 targets.
We always have a crosswinds with gust to 6-8 mph, so reading wind flags is very important. There is a 20 minute time limit each target.

Wind slacked off on bull's #6 & 8,and I managed to shoot two nice groups of .425" and .322".

Ist place total agregate score today was .499". 2nd was .502"...3rd was .660"...I came in 4th with .670"...

I've now switched to this setup...scissor jack and rear bag...rear bag is one of my old socks filled with aquarium gravel...

Some of the competitors..

asked where they could buy the 850 barrels...I told them thru Umarex USA for around $80...
In discussion about that, they would cut breech end off...then refit...

The guy who tuned my barrel wants one because he knows how accurate it is..

Anyway..I'm improving reading wind conditions there...I don't think I'll get into the agregate scores of sub-50 yard MOA soon, but I do know I can get very close. I messed up my first target which resulted in two penalties..otherwise,I may have shot around .520" agregate for the match..

This 850 HPA .177 is in direct competition with some very expensive rifles used in that match, including FX Cyclone,Daystate Air Wolf, and USFT's..
One guy was shooting a new HW 100 PCP...he ended up with an agregate score of .804"...I seen his targets..it was all over the place..and he is a good shot..he won this match once with a Cyclone shooting .424" !!!

Forgot to mention, all groups are measured "outside to outside" in this match.

And again Roald, you did a great job building/tuning it.

I love the top end gun owners. the one at our last shoot would not even touch the
850, it looked like he though it might dirty his hands wink.gif
But it sure shot just as well as his guns all day..... he eventually stood up and
walked on over and looked it over.... still didn't touch It though.
He walked off muttering something about "we'll see how long it lasts"
I just laughed at him. My .22 is on it's 9th tin of JSB's and its been through
at least 13 tins of Disco HP's. Thats around 10000 pellets and its still the most
accurate gun I have and cycles like butter. I stripped it down the night before the shoot
and put in one of my new springs so I could test it, the insides still look like they did
after it's first 500 shots..

I have been shooting the 850 HPA in at least two matches/month plus hunting with it weekly..not sure how many pellets I've shot, but it is substantial...each of the matches is 90 shots...maybe 6-7 tins...??

It has been flawless..and I clean barrel every 2 matches, lube action...I have 12 magazines I rotate to protect the mag "o rings" from wear..

oops. I meant 13 tins of Disco HP's. I corrected my previous post......
I just restocked on .22 pellets 20tins of 15.8gr JSB's and 20 Disco HP's
So I'm set for a while again..... and broke wink.gif

I must admit that I have yet to really clean the barrel on my .22.
I have relubed the action every few 4 or 5 tins of pellets as part of the wear inspection.
I do push an oily mop through the barrel after a heavy shooting session, which gets rid
of most of the "loose" lead.... So far so good.
I'm shooting my 177 a lot more now though. It took a while to get used to the lighter pellets
again. They are a challange in the wind, shooting the 22 for so long has spoilt me.
I whent through almost an entire tin of Kodiaks on Saturday (6 HPA tank refills)
and feel like I've got the feeling for it back again. The thing is awsome, it'll do dime sized
groups for me out to 45yards (with no wind) and Kodiak Match pellets.

Yeah, I have to do it. So I know what customers can expect from their 850's
further down the road. I have sat and shot over 1000 pellets in one weekend just to
check on how the action stands up to what we are doing to it.
It doesnt sound that hard to do, but believe me, you get blisters on your index finger from
cocking the rifle all day.... well I do it over two days. It takes between 6 and 7 fills to empty
a tin of 500pellets.
I'm done with that now though. I figure "most" guys will not come close to that rate of use.
So now I have time ot shoot some of my other guns..... I took my S410 out this weekend
for the first time in 5 months, nice gun wink.gif

9 or 10 states that have active air rifle benchrest matches...not sure about Texas...also,most are 25 yard...I'm fortunate as we have a 25 and 50 yard in our local area...
We have struggled to keep the 25 yard one going..but now we have a better venue and more shooters..
The 50 yard is held on a friends 20 acre ranch...in fact,he is building a new range...

Search this link...you may find a club in the Dallas area...??
