'owls'

I've heard similar calls several times while camping off the Kancamawgus Hwy in WMNF of NH. These calls came at night (~10pm) after we had called it a night. A call from not too far away, and an answer from much further away, and from another relative direction. It sounded too 'loud' (while a mid-hi frquency call, it had substantial bass) for an owl, but we couldn't imagine what elce it could be.
