owls

I have heard similar sounds many times while camping in the WMNF of NH, especially in the Big Rock campground on the Kancamagus Hwy. Typically heard after we sack-out (~10-11pm). First a 'owl-like' sound that seems fairly close (100 yds?), and an answer from much further away, and from a different direction. The sound was similar to an owl, but the apparent volume and low frequency components made us wonder. A really 'healthy' owl??
