      On Bigfoot Hunting

I have been fascinated by the Bigfoot phenomena since about 1973. The sightings dating back into the 1700’s and the relative consistency of these sightings lead me to a few conclusions. I am going to generalize for the sake of brevity.

Based on sightings databases such as John Green’s, the B.F.R.O., GCBRO, and dozens I have personally investigated, I find these sightings have a few things in common. Firstly, the sightings take on regional differences. Sightings along the West coast for example, are of much larger animals, and are more frequent. Sightings in the South seem to be of possibly a whole different species, while here in the Midwest they are much smaller, and differently colored than their West coast kin. These sightings show diversity similar to that of the black bear and grizzly bear, the grizzly bear having a much larger range, and more available food, and the black bear having smaller (although still large) ranges, and different food resources. Only a living, breathing species would show this diversity and relationship with its environment. Compound this with sightings that span a period of hundreds of years, it logically follows that all these sightings cannot be the work of hoaxers.

Any competent tracker (and there are quite a few around) can immediately tell what direction an animal is going, guess how heavy it is, is it injured, etc. from its tracks.
Also any competent tracker can immediately tell if the tracks he sees are hoaxes or not.
Seeing the exact same track, at the same depth, same gait, etc. are all dead giveaways.
The late Dr. Grover Krantz did extensive studies of dermal ridges in a variety of plaster casts of Bigfoot prints. These are analogous to fingerprints in humans, and are practically impossible to fake. Combine this with the variety of casts available, some even showing injuries and deformities that cannot be faked, and logically you must arrive at the same conclusion that I did, there is a large apelike creature wandering North America.

Still don’t believe? Need proof? Well, so do I. I have seen dozens of photographs (all of which can be hoaxes, easily faked), interviewed many people (even with voice stress analysis can be lying), picked up my share of hair (usually coyote or cow), and seen my share of scat (the common term is inconclusive). Add to this the hoaxers who see Bigfoot every time they go into the woods, or claim to actually be feeding a family of them and you can see why the general public does not accept Bigfoot. There are a growing number of scientists who are willing to risk their reputations in order to apply scientific methods to prove or disprove this creature’s existence, they are to be commended.

These creatures follow known biological patterns, there are those out there who insist that Bigfoot is some sort of alien, or shape shifter from another dimension, we leave these people alone with their own respective medical problems. Human qualities are also often attributed to Bigfoot, it’s upright walking is probably the reason. No one has ever seen a Bigfoot use fire, or use tools (any more that other members of the animal kingdom). Human have been using fire for thousands of years, it is one of the things that separate us from lesser animals. Eyeshine, or light reflected from animal’s eyes when light is shone into them is another way to distinguish human from animal. Due to the way our eyes are constructed, humans’ eyes do not reflect light as animals’ eyes do, there are many sightings mentioning Bigfoot eyes reflecting light (although in different colors). These things logically indicate that this is not a human, but merely an ape, although a very cunning one.

With all this said, there is logically only one way to prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt that Bigfoot exists. We must have one, living or dead. There is no other way.

No sane, rational person wants to go out and kill every one of these creatures, although most of the ‘tree huggers’ among Bigfoot enthusiasts seem to think so. Live trapping one of these creatures presents some almost insurmountable obstacles, the ‘shoot them with darts’ group are the ones I find most entertaining. With no knowledge of the creature’s physiology, it is impossible to determine which drug to use, how to deliver it, what dosage to use, etc. There could be a real danger to both hunter and creature alike if things don’t go correctly, not to mention what do you put an irate Bigfoot in once you have caught him? The only logical option is to kill one. Once that first creature is killed, then ALL the others can be protected by law. It is hard to enact a law to protect a species that does not exist (except maybe in California), that would change instantly. The person or team that kills the first one will have to deal with every freak from PETA to most likely the EPA, but it must be done. To those out there that attribute Bigfoot with telepathic powers, why doesn’t one of them sacrifice himself, to protect all the others?

What does one do with a freshly killed Bigfoot? Hopefully beforehand the hunter found local sources for dry ice, and has a secure place to keep the creature, away from prying eyes and animal rights terrorists. The physical size and weight of the creature probably preclude it from being carried out whole. Blood and tissue samples should be taken immediately, as well as one hand, one foot, and the head, if possible. Conventional wisdom indicates that the creature may travel in family units; so armed guards are posted to keep all types of two-legged creatures away. A sympathetic biologist associated with a university should be notified. Security should be tight throughout. No access to the public, no selling Bigfoot tissue samples on Ebay, etc. I realize that all this may be gory and gruesome to some, but it is the ONLY WAY we will ever PROVE the existence of this creature.
