Robert Guenette
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Robert Guenette, an Emmy Award-winning documentarian who filled films including "They've Killed President Lincoln" with reenactments that seem shot by on-the-scene news crews, died Friday of brain cancer. He was 68.
Guenette's television films include "Victory at Entebbe!" and "The Crucifixion of Jesus."
The writer, editor, director and producer of hundreds of hours of documentaries helped found the International Documentary Association and the Los Angeles Media & Education Center.
He produced "Monsters! Mysteries or Myths?" in 1974, an investigation of the Loch Ness monster, the Abominable Snowman and Bigfoot that remains TV's highest-rated documentary.
Guenette's documentaries appeared on the three major networks, HBO, Showtime, PBS and in syndication.
He produced and co-wrote "They've Killed President Lincoln," which features grainy newsreel-style footage portraying John Wilkes Booth shooting the president and interviews with bystanders. The 1971 film won an Emmy for outstanding achievement in cultural documentary programming.
