This workshop is designed to help prepare teachers and parents for a successful ARD outcome. Often times, the stress of the upcoming process may distract us from tapping into the right resources and doing the necessary preparation, beforehand. While this workshop does not deal with legal aspects of the ARD or IEP Process, it will provide you with critical tips on how to prepare for and complete a successful ARD. While serving in the capacity of parent, parent advocate, and District In-Home Trainer & Consultant, we have identified best practices that were compiled from hundreds of hours of participating in the ARD/IEP process that we will share with you. Some specific areas of focus for this workshop are that participants will learn:
-How to set developmentally appropriate goals for the child
-What resources to prepare and bring to the ARD/IEP meeting
-How to develop and implement specific transition techniques to help reduce anxiety and increase your child’s learning potential
-How to establish a positive and effective communication plan between teachers and parents
-How to develop a circle of friends for your child to help them grow and develop in a more accepting and nurturing school environment
-How to rescue an ARD discussion that is not turning out as planned
We are well aware of the complexities of the ARD process. If we learn to approach the process with a child-centered ARD in mind, the meeting outcome will likely be positive. If we approach the process with deeply rooted positions, these issues will often derail the process and could ultimately hurt the child. During this workshop, we will share techniques and teach tools that have been proven successful in many different ARD settings.
