"AUTISM AND INCLUSION STRATEGIES FOR HOME, SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY"
April 21-22, 2005 Holiday Inn ~ Davenport, IA
Spectrum Training Systems, Inc. will be hosting an autism and inclusion
conference for special education teachers, therapists and parents or
relatives. Come join us Thursday as we welcome Maria Wheeler (Treasure
Chest of Behavioral Strategies for Individuals with Autism and Toilet
Training for Individuals with Autism and Related Disorders). You will
study how the characteristics of ASD impact behavior and can foster
communication breakdowns and feelings of being overwhelmed. Maria will also
teach you how to address the social and sensory needs of an individual.
Topics include: Effective behavior interventions, visual supports for
maximizing communication and minimizing confusion, along with preventing
and dealing with shutdowns and meltdowns.
Friday's speaker is Dr. Paula Kluth (author of You're Going to Love
This Kid) as she presents the topic of inclusion for individuals with
autism and other disabilities. You will learn to differentiate your
instruction in the diverse classroom, make the classroom comfortable for all
learners and support behaviors and bodies of students with a range of
needs. Dr. Kluth's last afternoon session will include: Beyond Sight
Words: Supporting the Literacy Students with Autism.
