This I agree withby notthecheatr (no login)>>>Because it's not just about the compiler what it can do and how it manages to do it. It's >>>about the reasons why QB64 even exists in the first place. They have their reasons, as we have ours. Let's try to leave them alone, and perhaps then they'll leave us alone. >>>1. It was not created to compete with FB so everyone get that out of your heads. At this point it can't compete with FB. I don't know that it ever will, unless FB development stops (since FB is a couple of years ahead). We have nothing to fear from QB64, and they have nothing to fear from us (since it's an entirely different language, with different goals and ideas behind it). >>>2. It was not created solely for the purpose of running any QB code though this is it's most >>>noble reason. Well, I guess I don't see the point of creating a new language if it does all the same things the old language does "and more." I'd rather start over. But even FB has this legacy, of trying to be a successor to QB, so I can't complain about that and neither should anyone else. And certainly, since QB64 is not QB-compatible yet, there's no reason to bother making such ridiculous comparisons. >>>3. Galleon happens to think FB is straying from it's original goal, he decided to do >>>something about that. And the problem with that is? Cause I can't see any. ;-). There's nothing wrong with that. Live and let live. If someone else wants to do all that work, it doesn't bother me any. I'll stick with my own compiler and write games, thank you very much, but I don't mind if someone else wants to write a different compiler. >>>Thinking outside the compiler, have you looked at the feature set added that has nothing to >>>do with QB Compatibility so far? And the rest of what's planned to be added atop QB >>>Compatibility without breaking it's compatibility? It seems to, anyways, although I've heard other things mentioned such as ability to play sound and music... but in general, most of the features so far seem to be aimed at QB compatibility. Which is fine, by the way, nothing wrong with that at all. >>>Also, take a look around everywhere. Look at the millions of lines of code, good code, >>>exists for QB and the likes. Very useful routines and algorithms, tools, utilities and >>>complete programs. Let's not forget the GUI projects too. NOt sure about you, but I don't >>>wanna see that disappear or archived to be admired, I wanna see how they work, see what I >>>can learn from them (no matter how old the samples may be. I agree, although I'll say that those things belong in a museum since most of them are obsolete anyways. There are interesting things in that old-school code (I gave the example earlier of palette switching) - not really useful any more (we can achieve the same effects only better with our modern code) but there's nothing wrong with archiving it for old times' sake. >>>I've never seen you complain this much about FB either (cept maybe when 0.16 came out ;), >>>some, but still not as bad). Galleon chose to show us the progress as it happens, vi1c chose >>>to wait until a minimum set of stuff was done. It's a choice, it's not a right or wrong way >>>to present your project to people. Aside Paired programming, he's following every piece of >>>extreme programming ;-) You can read up on that here: Nothing wrong with that at all. As I said before, the main reason for any argument at all is when some QB64 wacko (mainly Clippy, in this case) comes over and starts ranting about how much better QB64 is than FB. That of course is simply not true, though perhaps some day it will be. The point is that the argument only comes here when it starts there. >>>What you choose to use for a language/compiler is of course your choice alone. What others >>>choose to use is their choice alone to. I think that's where it needs to stop. People aren't >>>idiot for making a choice. People need to stop calling names because of the tools they use. It's really pathetic. Clippy comes over and calls us all sorts of names, and certain of us come over here and return them. It's really a lame way to argue anything. Can we stop arguing people? Be at peace with each other. Clippy, please stop being so inflammatory. You're the only reason I'm here at all, and I suspect the same is true of Lachie. And the rest of us FB'ers, we'll stay in our own forum and discuss our own things, we have better things to do than debate which language is better, anyways. |
