qb64 in reactos (not just yet, but it's pretty simple)by mennonite (no login)(note the following is not a request) ...qb64 demo 5 or 6 would compile in reactos and qb64 programs would run in wine. the projects have similar capabilities, but wine calls existing libraries and reactos only calls the ones that use parts of the win32 api that are already natively implemented in reactos. so wine is "more complete" and reactos is more ambitious. what this means in practical terms is, wine didn't want to call the compiler because of path issues, but it was happy to run compiled programs using the sdl window. qb64 wasn't self compiling yet, so reactos ran the compiler and the compiler would work. (it didn't need an sdl window to compile then.) i like the reactos philosophy. they never suggest that you "port" a windows program to reactos, if it doesn't work in reactos, they will try to make it more compatible. galleon's philosophy about qbasic programs in qb64 is similar. but what it is, when qb64 has a real text mode "again" (which is planned?) and the compiler uses that text mode, you will probably be able to boot the reactos livecd, unzip qb64, and use it to compile programs, even if windows is not installed. and while most screen modes will not run in reactos (until they make reactos better...) you should be able to make programs for the real mode 0 that work in reactos. from IP address 85.195.119.14 |
