"I would have nothing against programmers sharing image and sound file decoders (written in BASIC) amongst themselves, nor such software being distributed with QB64. I even wouldn't mind them being built-in if they were written in BASIC. The problem is QB64's image and sound file decoders are written in C, and not written by a member of the BASIC community. I find this a little tragic."
IT IS BAD ENOUGH that FREE BASIC seems to have TAKEN OVER the magazine, but then YOU have to criticize QB64 and insult Galleon to boot? FREE BASIC IS LIKE WRITING CODE IN C!
QB64 CAN RUN ALL of my old IMAGE CODE. If you look in the QB64 WIKI, you can find MANY code examples that work RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX IN BOTH BASIC formats!
PLUS QB64 offers SIMPLE ways to produce music and sound effects! NONE of the OLD Qbasic Sound Blaster routines worked! QB64 FIXED THAT and offers NEW abilities with PLAY such as VOLUME control and multi-frequency notes!
As to loading images, WHY NOT load them FAST? WE ALREADY HAVE TONS of old Qbasic code to create Bitmaps etc., but not 32 bit! Qbasic COULD USE some upgrading and I think that Galleon has done an admirable job of keeping to the BASIC philosophy so that I DON'T HAVE TO LEARN C to do something!
If you want to push Galleon to support MORE of the old stuff, why don't you help instead of criticize. I'd like to see some more stuff TOO!
