Lawsuits are strickly follow the money but open source makes it volnuerable to abuse.

At least I think it does. If someone did take the project and created a pay language such as PowerBasic did, you couldn't sue them because no lawyer would take the case. Not nearly enough money in it to be of any interest if they won it and if you paid them out of your pocket to sue, well, let's face it, you either couldn't afford to do that or you wouldn't want to dip into your savings for something you don't intend to make money with anyway. Someone could even use it and call the project a QBasic to C converter.

The only advantage to Open Source that I see is if you want others to contribute to the project, which clearly hasn't been the case so far.

The advantage I see of keeping control of the project is that you grow is as you see fit, i.e., make your own future with QB64.

Either way, we as QBasic users benefit from the project and as I stated earlier, I would be perfectly fine with paying for a license to use it, too. Free is fine as well but I just don't see how making open source helps the users or the project.
