"Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone" (Colossians 4:5-6 NIV).
In these two verses, the apostle Paul is giving very sound advice on how we are to act toward unbelievers. We should conduct ourselves toward unbelievers in a manner that glorifies Christ, and when dealing with an unbeliever, our language, that is, our manner of speaking to them should be wholesome, sensitive, purposeful, gentle, truthful, and loving. Name-calling and beating them down as though with a whip is not conducive to winning a lost person to Christ, nor is it scriptural according to Paul above, and he ought to know since he got his teachings by direct revelation from Christ (Gal. 1:12; Eph. 3:3) and put them into practice to become one of the greatest soul-winners of the early New Testament church. We need to use wisdom in dealing with unbelievers, and calling them names, belittling them, or beating them down is not using Godly wisdom at all.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16)
