"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 3).

"Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:13 NASB).

Some translations of the Bible render the first part of this verse as "gird up the loins of your mind" (see KJV, ASV, NKJV, YLT for example) with the thought being of the ancient practice of gathering up one's robes when needing to move in a hurry and is used here by Peter as a metaphor for pulling in the loose ends of one's thinking by rejecting the allurements and hinderances of the world and keeping one's mind focused on the grace of God. Being sober in spirit includes the ideas of steadfastness, self-control, clarity of mind, as well as making sound moral decisions, and this means that a sober minded Christian has his priorities straight and not chasing after other things that are detrimental to his/her walk with the Lord. Rather than chasing after the various theories of men or the allurements of this world, our minds are to be stayed upon Jesus Christ and we are not to be distracted from that. Our Lord is to be our top priority! If anything else is our top priority, then that becomes our "lord" and we become guilty of idolatry. Let's keep focused upon our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

"Some bring God's curse on them by marking off part of the Bible, calling it erroneous, uninspired, less than the very Word of God." - Dr. John R. Rice

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16)
