"He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble" (Proverbs 3:34 NIV).
Those who in their arrogance and pride mock God, are in turn mocked by Him, but to those who humble themselves before Him, He bestows unmerited favor. God gets "the last laugh" as it were regarding those who refuse to follow Him, but those who have a broken and contrite spirit, God favors with undeserved kindness.
