"Therefore, my brothers, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends!" (Philippians 4:1 NIV)
Having reminded the Believers at Philippi that they are citizens of Heaven and that Christ will return for His Church some day, he encourages them to stand firm in the faith. The Greek word used by Paul is
stekete and is used to describe a soldier standing at his post, and is a military command. (In reading Paul's epistles, we find that he often alludes to military imagery to get his point across). We are to stand firm in the faith in the face of those who would try to dissuade us from the faith once delivered. We are to stand firm in the faith no matter what trial or circumstance may come our way. We don't give in to false teachers and their false teachings; we don't given in to liberalism; we don't given in to the world. Instead we stand firm and do not compromise.

"Some bring God's curse on them by marking off part of the Bible, calling it erroneous, uninspired, less than the very Word of God." - Dr. John R. Rice
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16)
