"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 3).

"He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenantnot of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life" (2 Corinthians 3:6 NIV).

The expression "the letter" is a Paulism for the Law, that is, the Old Covenant. The Law was a killer in that it brought knowledge of sin. It results in a living death. For example, before Paul had his Damascus Road experience, he, like some today believed he was saved by keeping the Law, but all it did was kill his peace, joy, and hope because one could never truly be sure they were saved. It also results in spiritual death, for the inability to keep the Law perfectly sentenced the one under it to an eternal death (Romans 5:12; 7:9-11; Galatians 3:10). Only Jesus Christ, through the agency of the Holy Ghost can produce eternal life in the one that believes on Him. The New Covenant, which we are under is also known as "the Law of the Spirit" and as the "ministry of the Spirit" gives life, peace, joy, and hope, and each and every Believer is a minister of the New Covenant.

"Some bring God's curse on them by marking off part of the Bible, calling it erroneous, uninspired, less than the very Word of God." - Dr. John R. Rice

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16)
