Pick out your fabric. You'll need to draw a circle on your fabric. Your circle should be about the size as a cd or bigger. It all depends on how big you want your yo yo to be. Keep in mind, when your yo yo is finished, it will be much smaller then the circle you drew.

Here I used a small dessert plate to trace the circle.

Once it is all cut out, you fold down the edge as you loosely baste around it.

Keep going! All the way around. Now you should be left with two pieces of thread, where you began and where you ended your baste stitch.

Your next step is to gently pull the two threads at the same time. I had to take my one hand off to take the picture. happy.gif

Keep pulling! When you are finished knot the two thread ends.

Cut the thread and there you have it! Your first yo yo! (p.s. my yo yo IS round, but I stretched the picture when I resized it, hence the oval like shape.)

Here is an example of an yo yo quilt. This lady added a backing on her's. You have to scroll almost all the way down to the bottom to the September 5th post. http://www.quiltersshowandtell.com/scrap-quilts/
