you made it sound so simple to do, but I don't know if I could ever tackle a project that big, heehee. You done a wonderful job and oh it turned out so very pretty. I think I am afraid of messing things up. I still want to do one of those rag quilts and I do have all the stuff, but I am scared to start afraid I will mess things up. Man I am going to have to get over my fears here, but I guess it stems back to my younger days when we were struggling and my mom did not want to waste a thing by messing up on something. I really need to work on this, I mean the world won't cave in if I do mess up. How strange us humans are. Thanks so much Daisy for all your hard work and sharing with us.

Thanks SM! .. and Tea ...

This is why we should live closer together ..heehee! You could help with bead things and I could help you with the rag quilt! I always get that fearful feeling when I go to sew, it does make me put it off for quite awhile, but then I just go ahead, pray and then do it and hope for the best. Not everything turns out, I admit that, and I hate it when it doesn't. I use it as a learning opportunity though. I really needed to learn how to make these skirts ... they are usually done with jeans and it looks super when done that way. I have a hard time finding my dd skirts, they're either mini skirts or totally expensive as she is almost as tall as me now ... so this is such a stress reliever if you know what I mean. The Lord always makes a way.

I saw this

August 29 2009, 12:35 AM

on your blog Daisy but the photos are clearer here (for me anyway) and the skirt looks really good. Most of the skirts I've seen made this way have had a contrasting piece of fabric and I've not really like that but I like how you've made yours. However I'm short so not sure if I would have enough fabric to do it this way. And you're looking so slim!

Tea, if you wanted to try this you might be able to pick up a pair of pants (I think jeans would be too hard to start with because they're heavier to sew through) for a few dollars. That way, if it doesn't work out it's not like you've spend lots of money (although in these times even a few dollars is too much to waste).

Progress from June 2006 - July 2009

2a/M/ii
Mid-Dark brown with natural red and silver highights; fringe/bangs.
Starting length 25"/62.5cm
Current length 36"/90cm (Original goal and was reached July 2009)
New Goal 44"/112cm

Current routine: (Trying to keep it as simple as possible): WC on the weekend; scalp washes every second day; oiling 2-3 nights per week; S&D when I think of it; and dusting every 8-12 weeks.

Shampoo: Organic Instincts diluted with herbal tea (rosemary and chamomile).
Conditioners: A'Kin Protein or Moisturising Conditioner mixed with honey (1 tablespoon of each).
Oils: Favourite is almond oil. Occasionally will use a blend of coconut, almond, olive in the ratio 2:1:1 in summer or as a deep oiling treatment.
Other: ACV infused with herbs (depending upon availability I use a selection of lavender, rosemary, cinnamon, sage, and thyme); BBB; wooden comb; Mason Pearson comb; Logona herbal henna.

'Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfailing beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.' 1 Peter 3:3-4

It's really easy ...

August 29 2009, 9:27 AM

I got those pants at the Goodwill for only a few dollars. And one of my friends picked up a pair of jeans brand new for a few dollars too. She was learning how to make these skirts the same time that I was from another friend of ours and the skirt happened to fit me, so I got to keep hers! happy.gif She just picked up the pair of pants just to learn with because they didn't have her size. I paid her the few dollars of course. I wanted to see if I remembered what I learned and it's easy and so straight forward. The only thing you have to really be concerned with is how your seams lay. Everything must be smooth. Being shorter then myself Jules, I don't think you would have any trouble using the pant leg as the insert. Of course it all depends on how long you want your skirt too. I hope to find more to do in the future.

And thanks for the slim comment. Boy does that ever feel good. Really good. My dh just noticed a few weeks ago that I lost some weight ... it took him awhile to see it. I just need to loose say 10 more pounds then I will be happy with my weight. I always was a petite person, so I know my body, it should be petite and it's definately not. However if my weight doesn't go down, I'm not going to fret too much about it, I'm doing the best that I know how health wise and I'm not going to watch my calories or anything like that. Too me that's unrealistic to count calories every meal ... what a headache that is! I rarely over eat, so I'm not worried about the calories. I do however need to exercise. :P

That' s really neat!

August 30 2009, 8:13 PM

I almost like turning things into something else even better than sewing from a pattern! A lot of the work is already done for you that way! The skirt turned out really nice.

My daughter needed a Hawaiian shirt for Fridays at school. She didn't have one, and I couldn't find one! But she had a Hawaiian pattern dress that had gotten too small on her (too short) so I cut it off and made it into a top for her! It's perfect!
